I know most cats dont get used to new food especially if its dry food,I always buy the best nutirious food for my cat the well known brands that support ph levels, hair growth etc... I know that i should always mix the new food with old so she can get used to it and its been working fine. But, for the treats ive tried two different brands and she never tries to even have them just smells them and goes away, iam sure the problem is not she doesnt like them but ive tried many others she just eats the first one i got her. What do you do to make your own cat eat the new kind of treats its been bugging me since please any suggestions would help.

There's just no accounting for a given cat's preferences, so I just give what I know the cat will eat. For example, my cats, for some strange reason, prefer the senior Friskies turkey and giblets canned food. They might sample other flavors, but they will always go back to their favorite. So I keep giving it to them! Why fix something that's not broken? Knowing something about a cat's preferences and catering to them will save you money in the long run and go a long way in pleasing your cat.

I don't know what kind of vet you take your cat to but i have never heard this. It is normally recommended that you don't change your cats diet at all unless you have to.

I haven't heard of this either. Perhaps a few vets would recommend this as a way of dealing with specific health issues. For example, my vet suggested that I feed my Columbus senior canned cat food, as Columbus is ten years old and has a potential kidney problem. So I've followed her directions and so far, the cat is fine. Last week, I took him to the vet for a general check up and learned that the cat has since gained one pound. My vet only gave him medication for fleas and a cough.

I once had a cat who never ate treats, just didn't like them I guess. I bought every treat on the market and he just turned his nose up at them. I wouldn't worry about it.

I would not be concerned about your cat not liking treats. They are like junk food anyway and should not be a part of their daily diet. It is better for your cat to not have them at all. I would be more concerned if your cat was not eating their food.

Well for my cats they don't like the name brand treats. They stick there noses up at them. They like the generic from wal-mart. However not all cats like treats. A couple of ours don't like any treats at all and I've known other cats like that as well. They vary, just like humans.

I agree, if they are eating their regular food then I would worry about feeding them treats. I also never heard of this switching food every two weeks. I would maybe ask the advice of another vet?

My cats don't seem to have a problem with switching brands of food, but they are definitely picky about the kinds of treats they will eat. They love this dried chicken treat that I can only seem to find via mail order, and they won't touch the store bought dried fish or other types of chicken. They love that dried chicken so much that all I have to do is open the refrigerator door and look at them and they come running.
