Irritating ads - do you buy the product or not?

From what I've been told irritating ads are made that way deliberately to get you to remember the product so that you are more likely to buy it. I don't know about other people, but if I find an ad to be extremely annoying then I make a conscious decision to boycott that product. Do irritating ads have that effect on you or do you just ignore them? Not that I would ever need this product but my current pet hate is for a quit smoking patch where a large group of people are following a guy with the patch constantly asking how he feels. If anything like that happened in real life I bet that he would actually deck some of them.

Yes I think they expect that the irritating nature will cause you to remember the product without remembering the cause, but I consciously choose to remember that it was irritating and avoid that product.
