%90 of the countries play soccer today.To me,most popular sport is soccer(football).Basketball,baseball follows it.In USA,the most popular sport is NBA,baseball and American football follows it.The rating changes from region to region.

The most popular sport must be soccer, no matter in which part of the world ,people are getting crazy about it. Just see how crazy are the people when they were watching the world cup.People even take an anuual leave to watch the whole world cup tournament, and they have to stay up late to watch all the matches. Criket is not really popular, it only involves 30 coutries or so, and not many people actually know how to play...

its bound to be football. i guess the universal appeal of this game lies in its simplicity. all you need is a ball( or any soft spherical object one can muster!), couple of zealous players and open ground,or even small ones will do. as you correctly pointed out, the number of countries involved is DEFINITELY more than those imvolved in playing cricket. also, the game of soccer is marketed and commercialised much more aggresively than the game of cricket, so it reaches farther than the game of cricket. personally, i love watching cricket over football, but when it comes to playing the game, i would prefer soccer over cricket any day!

Its Soccor becuase so many countries are involved in it(sports). i am not sure the ranking of india but its around 150th, Thus you can judge the involvement and popularity of this game in the entire world.

I like cricket and football too. I'm playing cricket since ma childhood and football well I started it quite late. Not until I wuz in 3-4 grade. Actually the reason is very simple for the popularity of football greater than cricket. Cricket events are held on certain occasions and they are very less in number also. Whereas football season is off for a very short period and then it begins again. So people get to see more football than cricket. I hope cricket get's that thing soon. If it wants to compete with football as the most played game. In our region i.e. "South Asia" cricket is well of in popularity than football. Also I want to mention is that cricket is mostly played in places where once British ruled. I hope this may bring it into your account.

According to me the most popular sports now a days is CRICKET because it has increase from 8 to 16 countries.And that day is no far when CRICKET takes up the place of FOOTBALL...

I think it's basketball, Because football isn't that popular here in the Philippines. I think they are some enthusiasth who plays eat but not yet on a national level. Not like basketball here, we have so many local league and even Phil-Americans come here to play professional basketball. But i like football, it was part of my P.E class when I lived in French Polynesia.

That would depend upon how you define "popular". If, as is common, "popular" is to be defined on the basis of number of people supporting it, then, yes, football is the most popular sport of the world, not because number of countries involved are more, but because more number of people like it.

i think it is football. cricket is played only in few contries but football is liked by more no of countires. we can compare this easily in fifa world cup 32 countries participated but in criket worl cup only 16. thanks
