Would you use your infant as down payment for a car?

I was just reading an article on CNN where a woman used her child as a down payment for a car. I was shocked to read this and think it is horrible that anyone would exchange their child for a car. Obviously the car was more important to this mother . I am amazed how some people are parents. Fortunately all three people involved were arrested and are in jail. The baby was put in a foster home where hopefully the boy will receive much better care. Here is the link to the site to read more about this. http://www.cnn.com/2007/LAW/02/27/baby.downpayment.ap/index.html

thank god someone tip off the police.an the child is safe.it makes you wonder how many other kids did the trade off.maybe the police can get some info from the ones that was arrested.on some missing kids.that they may have sold or traded for something.this is just awfull for someone to do this to a child.

I am glad too that someone tipped them off to the police and they got caught. I feel so sorry for the child and after looking at the article again, I wonder if this was her child or someone elses child. I feel so bad for the child.

Oh that's really sad to think a parent would get that desprite to do that...Just a shame... I mean ask another adult rather than a child if the credit is that messed up. Serves her right, sad that the kids has to go into foster care though because of the dumbness...Just goes to show how far adults will go to get things...

Heck no. That is the craziest thing I have ever heard and I hope this woman gets a good 10 years in jail. This just goes to show you the problems in the United States. People are having kids so often that they can't afford the basic necessities of life. So to get those necessities they give up their kids. Personally, I think something needs to be done in the US about the number of children being born each day and the age of their mothers. That number keeps going down and dept keeps going up.

I dont have an infant but I certainly would never wager any member of my family as a means of down payment..for me that would be simply an abuse of one's relatives.. Anyone who would do something like that should not have children.

I would never wager any of my family members for anything or anyone. I am glad that these people got arrested and hope they are not allowed to be around children. It is unthinkable how people could do such a thing. These people are just horrible.

I have to ask because it was pointed out in the article... but does the nationality of the person make a difference? "Wilson said all three were Mexican nationals and federal officials had been asked to investigate their immigration status." Do parents in Mexico often exchange their children for other things that they do not have the money for? I would hope not! Anyone here from Mexico that can respond? I am not meaning it as offensive...but CNN pointed it out for a reason. Why? Personally, I would never give up my children in exchange for something else. That is just sad for the children and display the low quality of the parents.

I do not think nationality would matter in this type of case because since they did the exchange in the USA it is illegal and they deserved to be locked up. Maybe the laws are different in Mexico but since they did it in our country it is illegal. All three are illegal immigrants and should be sent back to Mexico and locked up.

It seems like things have kept getting worse with parents and their kids but trading a child for a car is inexcusable and imaginable. They should never be allowed around children again. A child should always come first and never exchanged for anything or anyone.

That is terrible and can not see how anyone can do that at all. They should be in jail that is for sure. People should not be allowed to have kids if don't want to keep them. What is this world coming too?

I think it's absolutely horrendous but as for shocking-nothing Americans do surprises me anymore.I am so glad they took the poor child away because the mother doesn't even deserve to have children! There are so many women out that can't have kids but would make great parents, then you get bozos like this popping kids out like it's nothing then don't even take care of them!

I guess we should not be surprised by the things people do that we keep hearing about. It is terrible how some of these people treat their children or other people's children. This person should never be allowed near another child again nor the people that took the child from her.

I'm amazed that someone would accept a child for a down apyment? I mean really now what is the world coming to? That someone didn't care that much about their child to begin with is also shocking and absurd. The poor kid, I'm glad he's in a foster home now and that both idiots were arrested.

I simply can't believe that someone can do a thing as horrible as that of exchanging child for a car. It's a mere consolation that people involved are now in jail. The more critical thing is the act of those people which i think is unforgivable. Some punishment would not suffice!

How would any car dealership even take a baby as a downpayment?? That is ridiculous. I didn't read the story so I don't know if they were even willing to do that but still. Some people, most people should not have kids.

It is amazing, what humans will do for materialist things. They are worse than animals, as animals at least care for their young and provide for them. What is happening in this world? I don't even like to hear the news, as it is so gory and scary already.

Many people just dont value life and families any more. It is truely sad. This child was probably better off that it will find a new home now than in a few years after the mother did goodness knows what to the inocent child. If a mother would trade her child in for a car you know she would let anyone do anything to it for money. Sad that the world has people like this in it.

It is an unfortuate thing that today in many parts of the world children are a commodity to be traded. It is good the the child was saved. How many children suffer because of uncaring adults? How many children are molested, abused, killed, tortured daily. How do such monsters get away with it?
