My 2 year old daughter can count to ten!

Out of the blue she counted to ten the other day, she was playing with her older brother and they were counting down to jump on my bed and she just counted to ten. Out of nowhere, I couldnt belive my ears. I hadnt even started counting with her, we are still working on abc's. At first I though it was just a fluke but then she did it for her dad when he got home. I have heard her do it several times since then and have asked her to count thing and she does it perfectly. I know she had to have learned it from her brother but it amazes me. He was 3 1/2 when he learned to count to ten. Is this an average age or does this impress anyone else? I am curious at what age did your children learn to count or say thier abc's?

Congrats. It is always so fun when they learn these things. My daughter was 2 also when she learned to count. She is 3 and can count to 15 in english and spanish and knows her alphabet. She knows all of her colors and most of her shapes. She can write her name without tracing and we are working on recognizing the letters and numbers. Now by no means is my daughter better at all people learn at different rates. I think a lot of her's was from us teaching her sign language and it helped so much. I also worked in childcare for 7 years so I knew some of the things to work with her on. Congrats again.

Grats. Isn't it amazing how excited we parents get. Anyhow my children can still count. Only now my son has counted up to $375 that he owes me. My daughter counts to $700 when she's short on her house payment. J/K I love my children. Just thought that fit in a humorous fashion. Happy postings from Grandpa Bob.

Actually, my daughter too, can count 1-10,at her age of 2 and 2mos..I'm the one who is teaching her. Children nowadays had that amazing talent of learning, eventhough on their younger years..They can catch up things that usually being heared or seen. Is that, they only need to have folowups so that this smartness will be develop..

Well since you asked....my daughter literally just turned three years old. She's been able to count to twenty (not always perfectly), say her ABC's, and identify colors for about a year now. She has this Barney laptop toy that asks you to find numbers, objects, and colored shapes. Eight out of ten times she can find the requested item on the first shot. I didn't even know she knew shapes (even the oval)!!

Jesse was about 2-1/2 when he learned the alphabet, I don't remember when he learned to count to 10, though. I had a sitter with older kids and they apparently spent a lot of time with him! I was trying to get him to show off to a friend one day, I asked him to sing the alphabet. So in his sweetest voice, he sang the word "alphbet". He always was a little smarty pants!

kids are different in everything. when it comes to development i think girls do develop fast than boys, because girls easily focus on things rather than with boys that loves to play than to study. congrats you got great kids.

Well I had tried to teach her before but she wasnt to much interested. It seems to be a patern with her and her brother. When I tried to teach him his abc's he didnt want to do it then all of the sudden he was singing them like is was always in his brain. Funny how that works !

Sponges, I wish they were sponges that only picked up good things ! I have learned the hard way that even when you think they dont understand something they still pick it up and store it for later ! We are much more carefull now then when they were babies about what we say, I cant even say darn without one of them saying it a million times!

it is very common that a two years girl cannot count to ten. my daughter just can count to ten after she is two and half years.so you do not worry it. it will get better later.

It really helps to have an older sibling. My little sister was 3 when one day we discovered that she knew the entire alphabet, just from listening to my Mom teach us!

My Daughter was 3 and 1/2 when I started doing ABC's with her and counting. She taught my boys at an earlier age though, they cottoned on to her pretty quickly and so both of them were counting to 10 by the time they were 2 and 1/2, and same with their ABC's. I find it helps when you have older siblings. They teach the younger ones without you even realizing it. They're a great help.

maybe kids in this generation are smarter than before. my 2 year old youngest daughter can count to 20 and say her alphabet loud and clear as well. like also my 4 year old girl that can do 1 digit addition and can read 3 letter word.
