XP runs very slow. I think Win98 is better when it comes to speed.

The thing that i hate is that there are various ways by which u can customise XP.But they are hidden from regular view.The basic ones are present in the group policy editor.But most of the needed ones can be hacked only through third pary tools like tweakXP or u have to work on the registry(which is not recomended).I hope this is not carried in Vista also.
