Blogger versus Wordpress for newbies

What content management system do you think is most useful to new bloggers--the new Blogger or Wordpress.com? I have blogs on both, and although I initially preferred the Wordpress.com interface (this was before Blogger Beta)I appreciated the openness of Blogger. You can monetize it, add Javascript, and also now move the blog to your own custom domain without breaking any links. Blogger Beta also added tags, which are a huge benefit, and they created a widget system similar to Wordpress. Wordpress is, to me, a clear choice for a blogging content management system if you are talking about professional blog (not hosted on Blogger/Wordpress.com), but I have to toss my hat into Blogger's ring for the free blogging platforms. Thoughts, anyone?

I have to agree with you. I've used both, Wordpress professional and blogger.com. For a personal blog, Blogger is easier and faster and like you said, more customizable (is that a word?)
