Looking at Christianity through history, I've noticed the will of God and proper Christian conduct as translated by the various churches seems closely aligned to perceptions and beliefs of the society at the time. Once community views change past actions become regretted or are no longer followed such as avoiding bathing, the bible only being available in churches, the inquisition, tolerance or persecution of other religions in a country, crusades, anti semetism, taking babies of indiginous people, treatment of suicides, treatment of heretics and theological differences etc.

God is always good. The Old Testament was written more than 3,000 years ago and has been existing up to now. The New Testament was written about 1,900 years ago and has been existing up to now also. Our present governments and societies had no other source of what good they are doing except the Holy Bible. Please remember also that God created everything including man and He created them very good. It's not the Holy Bible that took the good from governments or societies but it is the other way around. The Holy Bible is complete. Think of anything and you will find that it is in the Holy Bible.

Can God actually be called good when the only comparison for ethical behaviour is humans?. The old testament contains many acts of or supported by God which would not be considered good. The flood, religious intolerance, killing different ethnic groups, creating a system where hell exists and people go to it forever. I would agree it is the people not the book in general that has caused problems but there are other religions and systems other than christianity available, how well they could have evolved in europe I don't know.

All religions are abused. But lets look at the religions themselves, at least Jesus wasn't as bad as Muhammad, which is a real critical point when discussing religious motivation for intolerance, etc.

It has to do with the people and their level of spiritual understanding becos God has given a standard which can be seen in His word, but different interpretation in being given to this thing, that is where the problem is

Why hasn't God accomodated to a lesser understanding aswell and shouldn't the heads of the denominations be represented by people who have this high level of spiritual knowledge?

History has seem to have taught that religion is not real at least not what we know of it, those in power, seem to use religion as a way of controlling others, not as a real spiritual meaning. There in nothing in the teachings of Jesus that says go and kill anyone who disagrees with you, yet this is what happened. Most faiths however not just Christianty have in their history people who have taken extremist views, and who have used the religions as a way of controlling people for political power.

I think you have a point, culture reflects what society believes and in order to make religion something that people in society will feel close to, it has to be modernized.
