I've never had one of these guys, but I would've loved to. We had this one cool mom and pop fish store back home. They'd get all unique and hard to find fish in there. But, they always had problems with their rope fish, and a lot of the "eel" type fish, like tire tracks. They'd always end up with a fungus on them, and I wouldn't buy them, obviously. That's the only store I'd ever see them in. They're supposed to be pretty good fish though, they will eat smaller fish, but larger fish are usually safe. Also, I'd go with a minimum 55 gallon tank for one of them, they get upwards of 2 feet long. They need a little bit of space to swim :)

Hi! One of our local pet stores, where I get most of my fish these days, is like that. They get a lot of exotics in, like dolphins, stingrays, hedghogs, tarantulas, and yesterday they had a white moray eel. Not my cup of tea, but I'm sure someone out there would like to have an eel.
A 30 gallon tank might be okay for a rope fish (a smaller one) for a while, but I'm not sure I'm planning on going to a larger tank than that, so maybe I should hold off. You never know, though, my hubbby is slowly getting hooked, too, so maybe....

Oh, and thanks for the great advice! I'd love to get a dinosaur eel but I haven't for the same reasons - they grow to be around 16 inches and need more room than I plan on having right now. :-)

I have not had any, but they are kinda neat looking. I think you would enjoy watching it wiggle between the rocks. I am not sure how they get along with other fish. You may want to search the net and find out more info.

Hi! I think that would be fun, too. I'm not sure how my blood parrots will react to it. They seem pretty happy just sharing the tank with angelfish for now. I'd hate to upset them. It's just like with other pets, you have to think about what's going to happen as the fish matures to make a decision as to whether you can own it or not. Sometimes that a bummer. There are several fish I'd love to own but they will get too large for the size tanks I think I can care for. :-)

I have seen them at our one local store that specializes in fish. They are so kewl! When I first saw one in the tank I thought it was a snake! I believe they are also called reed fish. I was thinking they are salt water though? Are they fresh water fish? I do know that they require larger tanks because I recall the one guy at the pet shop saying the tank had to be a certain size and it's a pretty big one!
I don't know how hard they are to care for or even how pricey they are. I'd love to do fish but I know I'm not very good at keeping stuff like that up. I'd forget for sure and have a ton of floaters! LOL

Hi! There is a smaller one at the pet store (about 6-8 inches) with a sort of cute little face. I have a 30 gallon tank, which might be okay for a while. I read on a message board that they can get out of the tanks and go on an adventure in your house! LOL They can live for about 30 minutes out of water. Amazing!

The only kind of fish that we have ever had was gold fish and the kind that eats the stuff in the tank. I have always wanted a large tank with all kinds of fish but have never been able to afford the tank.
