All the time. Not just books but clothes, household items, etc. We can't afford a lot of new stuff so I try my best to look for 2nd hand stuff in good to excellent condition. It doesn't bother me that these things once belonged to someone else. I only get them if they are in very good condition. I going browsing through yard sales, flea markets and thrift stores. I've found some real gems there! I once bought an original pair of Levi's jeans in excellent condition for $1! Can't beat that! :)

Yep, I buy used things all the time. "One man's trash is another man's treasure" as the saying goes is something I live by. I'm a big fan of recycling things. Not everything of value is brand new and if you think that then you are missing out on a lot of the finer things in life. At least that's how I feel about it.

My favorite store in the whole world is Half Priced Books. It is a book store that sells used and new books for half the price or even better. The closest one to me is in my states Capitol which is about 45 minutes from where I live. But every time I am in the capital I go to Half Priced Books. It is great. I also shop for other used items at flea markets and places like goodwill.

I also love browing thrift and consignment shops. I have gotten some really great finds. I love finding vintage stuff, wether it's clothes or housewears. There is one consignment store near me that has everything from Hallowwen costumes, to acustic guitars, and yeah, despite not being able to play I debated for an hour about buying the guitar-the price was so good...but alas, the sad truth is I have no musical talent and never would have leanred to play :-) I think the trick to shopping in these places in being really vigilant about what you are buying. Most reputable consignment shops won't take items that are total junk. They must have some resale value. Even so I always go over everything I buy with a fine tooth comb. Besides being more economical, you never know what treasures you can find. I think it's fun.

I buy a lot of things second hand. It really is not only an exellent way to save money, but it is also great in that it creates less waste. If you can keep people from throwing out something that it perfectly good for someone else to use, you are also helping out the environment. I have bought all of the following used: books, clothes, housewares, cooking items, cds, dvds, jewelry, and even furniture. The trick about buying things used is that you often have to be really careful. A lot of used items are sold "as is." This means that if you take it home and find a problem with it, you're stuck. If you had bought that item new from a major store, you could try to return or exchange it, with used things that is often not the case. When you buy something that has been used before, you really need to look over it carefully. If it's a jacket, is it missing any buttons? If it's electronic, does it work properly? You want to make sure that things are clean and useable. Oh, and also remember that there are times when delivery is not an option, so you might want to check your trunk space before buying that great dresser you found at the local flea market. However, I would say you should take a chance and buy some more used things. If you are careful and really look carefully, you can find some really great things. This is especially true if you like to buy things that have more of a retro look to them.

Hello meoasis, I see we finally have something in common. I'm a sucker for books. I always read books and absorb them like a sponge. What kind of books are you reading? I prefer to read mystery, sci-fi and thriller. I rarely buy second hand things especially clothes. I would prefer to buy new one that are of good quality materials.

I call it bargain shopping, to shop for second hand things. I shop at garage sales, thrift stores at the flea market. I've bought clothes, dishes, toys, furnitures and lots of other items. It truly is rewarding to find that perfect item at such a great price. Knowing that you spent far less than if you bought it brand new. :)

I often buy books, some clothing, childrens toys and books from thrift stores and consignment shops. Sometimes you find some really good quality stuff there. On occasion I buy the odd household item, wall hanging, and or picture frame.
