PIRATED or ORIGINAL?

Since piracy is widespread, do you think it is still practical to buy original copies of movies, tv series and albums? Honestly, I have double standard on this issue. I support local artist by buying originals or watching the movie in theaters. On the other hand, for foreign films, sometimes I watch them in theaters and sometimes I buy pirated copies specially if I wasn't able to catch it in theater. Same to music, sometimes I download and soetimes I buy original copies.

Piracy can only be curbed by a combination of honesty and good marketing strategies by entertainment companies. If you really like an artist then, you can wait for some time to buy that artists records, usually after a season the prices start coming down, sometimes special collections are released, you can buy those albums and save money. Till that time you can always listen to that artist in TV channels like MTV etc. Naturally if you curb your instinct for making impulsive purchases, gradually the record sales will start dipping and the music companies will be forced to review their pricing strategy and offer discounts. Piracy, is of no use in the long term because everything loses its charm soon, if you have a pirated copy of a DVD how many times will you watch it?. Maximum 3 or 4 times, after that it will only gather dust somewhere. So, you might either, watch the movie in a movie hall and forget about it, or you can wait for some time after which you can , purchase your DVD at a discount and save money.

I agree about wanting to have an orginal, but .. in some cases it depends on the country. Here in the Philippines for example, the cost of living has gone from high to extremely ridiculous. Most things that are sold here are priced too high. No regulation. That's why for me at least, it's a combination of both. I get the original as often as possible, but not always.

Yes for 2 reasons. If you want to support the artist. Or if you don't want to run afoul of the law. :P
