What is the best way to teach a dog to fetch?

my shephard does not like to play with any ball. when i throw the ball, she sniffs around at it and then comes running back for the treat. she doens't like tuggies, or squeekies. is there any hope???? she's really active and i'd like to find an easy way to exercise her... thanks!!!!

I guess you should not be giving her a treat when she did not complete the task. For I dog, repetition is the key to learning, if you give her treats when she fails a drill, she might think that it is ok and that she is doing everything well. You should be more strict on her. You might need to demonstrate what she should be doing, try to have someone play the dog role.

German Shepherds - These are out shepherds
You're gonna have to take her jogging! Some dogs just don't fetch. I am surprised, though, I have 2 shepherds who can't LIVE without playing fetch twice a day (plus a 3 mile run!) But my akita wants nothing to do with it. Sometimes he might chase a stick, but then he just lays down to chew on it.
