When do YOU mark "Best Response" and do you feel guilty?

At what point do you mark "Best Response" to your discussions? first day, first week? once a month? or when the discussion seems to die out or?Do you feel guilty when you mark best response? sometimes there are so many good replies that I feel guilty to mark one over the other, not wanting to discourage or hurt the other people who had important contributions as well...

It can sometimes be difficult to mark a best response. If I am getting a lot of responses to a topic then I will wait for up to a week before choosing the best. If I am gettin very few responses, then I will rate the best after a day or two. When I find it difficult to choose a best response, I usually give it to the best response with the longest answer. It might seem unfair but it is the only way I can think of at the moment. It would be nice if we could mark everybody from 1 - 10 and that might make it easier.
