Who likes planning meals?

I don't mind the cooking so much, but I don't like the planning. It's always been a challenge for me to do the planning of meals and keeping them a little different and non-boring. Tonight I have a roast in the crockpot about to come out, make the gravy, mash the potatoes and corn for a vegetable. Quite an ordinary meal, but not too bad the day before grocery shopping.

I find I enjoy cooking more when I have planned a menu for the week. I don't plan out the entire thing usually it's what type of meat if any and it might say veggies or salad or such as the side. I like that it's not chaotic since I have a starting point and the other thing is that I don't HAVE to follow it. If it strikes me or my hubby (now that it's just the two of us) that we'd rather have something then we do. After years of trying to have a variety of meals we've found that there are a few things we can live on and have a few that we have occasionally. I think the idea is somehow put into our heads as chief cook that variety is required when in fact they really don't care. The variety is for us as we get bored cooking the same thing. Just MHO.

I have some favorites, too, and never get tired of them. I've been known to have breakfast for supper (bacon, eggs, hashbrowns and toast). With a big slice of fresh tomato, that is so good!

I agree, breakfast for dinner is always nice as I rarely do a big breakfast anymore. I love to fry up the tomato slices. I also add slices oranges to my plate.

in a way i will plan what's be my menu for the week so that in time i'll be in the grocery i can pick up the things i would be needing. i enjoy cooking that i may sometimes cook more than what's i have planned for the week & it's fun also to experiment different recipes for the family. i do cooking that will be good for 3 days already as i will have different types of dishes in separate containers that in time for a meal it's always ready & reheat from stove or microwave .

I like to cook extras, too, and keep them in the freezer to have a break from the cooking.

I have a problem with this area too. My family seems to get more and more picky all the time. I'm always hearing "we're having that again??" And when I ask them for suggestions they never seem to be too quick to come up with any of their own. I always try to make a different kind of meat and vegetable each time I make a meal, but if we have leftovers, we usually have them 2 days in a row if they can't be frozen because groceries are so expensive.

You're right, groceries are too expensive to be throwing away. I kind of like leftovers, they're easy on the cook.

ugh, no I do not like planning meals! I love to cook but I just can not seem to discipline myself for any length of time to be devoted to a menu. I am more of an impulse or mood cook....what do you feeeeel like eating today, not what is on the menu for today. I did for a time make out a menu for a month and then shopped for that menu, planning uses for leftovers etc... but now I generally shop sales items and loss leaders so have to cook around my shopping rather than shop around my cooking. I could still do up an advance menu, I suppose, just after the shopping rather than before. My girls like to browse through the cookbooks and get ideas that way for meals, but I rarely follow a recipe exact because I rarely have all the same ingredients ( except for baking, that I usually follow pretty well)

I've never tried the menu thing, I know I'd never stick to it. I just cook with what happens to be in the freezer and cupboards. I like baking the best, it's so easy to make something good!

I used to plan meals weekly. However, that was when I was married, and 3 kids at home. Some nights everyone was home for dinner, other nights I had to plan for 2 - 5, so that was helpful. However, I was on my own for 2 yrs, and I am now in a wonderful relationship, but planning for meals is not an option, he is in law enforcement, and some nights he leaves work on time, other nights he may not get home to 9 or 10 oclock. So I have learned to never plan meals!

I don't plan my meals a whole lot either. I look at what I bought for groceries and then decide during the day.

its more fun to randomly make a meal rather than planing days in advance, but sometimes you dont have much choice when you work late and things like that but dont have a lot of time to cook, but i like decided at the last minute that way its not so boring
