I don't know what I was thinking. I am a single mom. My kids are a boy that is 8 years old and a girl that is 1 1/2 years old. I work alot and we don't always have a lot of spare time. I was finally able to move us into a house and out of the apartment life. I was so glad to have a yard and a whole place that is all mine. My son talked me into getting a dog. I went to the animal shelter. (I figured I would rather rescue a homeless dog than spend high dollar on some trendy little yappy thing) I got a cute litte girl dog. She is one year old and lookds exactly like Benji. The only thing is she needs as much training as the little one does. The two fo them together are driving me nuts. Does anyone have suggestions on potty training the dog and getting her to stop trying to chew on all the stuffed animals?

Just be patient and be diligent. Take her out often (every hour at first)to the EXACT same spot everyday. (since you have a doggy door I assume you will be going out.If not, just go to paper instead of out.)Praise her madly if she does her business and bring her in afterwards. A kennel while you are not home is a good idea. Most will not potty in them. Just be sure to take her out before and after being in it. Take up her water bowl also at 2 hours before you take her out before bed. And feed her on a regular schedule if possible. Regular = regular. For chewing the best thing is to tell her no firmly and take away the object and give her a good thing to chew on. Do not let her chew on any object if she can not chew on all of them. In other words; If you give her an old shoe, she will assume all shoes are okay. For this reason, socks can be a bad idea if any of you leave socks where she can get them. It is an excellent way to use them up and have free dog chew toys but can be misleading to the dog. Good luck to you! I got my last dog at 6 weeks and by 4 months he was paper trained. He had a few accidents but not many and most were the days after he was neutered.

Thank you very much for the good advice. We are making some progress with her. I am sure it will be fine eventually, it just takes time.

As far as chewing get her some of her own chew toys. You could also take some of your sons holy socks and put a knot in them and you now have a home made tug toy. As far a potty training the 1 thing I remember from haveing a dog my dad would rub its nose in her accidents and then tie her outside for about 20minutes. You could go to your local pet store and aask them sometricks they would have some things that could help.

thanks for the advise. I like the idea of the sock. I don't know about rubbing the dogs nose in it. I have always heard that but to me it seems like it wouldn't be so bad for the dog. I mean they do eat their own poo sometimes.
