Yes there are a lot of communities like orkut. But i personnaly feel that orkut is the best. Other communities like orkut are XANGA, MYSPACE, HI5, PICTUREBUCKET to easy blog about pictures.

Ya man there is a better one its quite good to its called hi5.com its cool and loads of people use this site too... have really cool features so that you can animate change your homepage and stuff just need to use the html code from a site called hi5love.com you can customize your homepage!

It sort of depends on what you are looking to do within that networking community. There are several others that are good for different things, some peoples opinions vary on these, but you can see for yourself. Myspace for some is overrated, but I use it for networking and I find that I can talk to people about writing, film, music, and I am not searching and getting denied friendship like on friendster. Friendster for all it is worth is not a friendly networking site; it is hard to add people, there are no variety of films and music like on myspace, and the groups to be a part of are inactive and have no members in them, and I hate to say, but I think that most of the friendster people have a myspace page and are using that more.
