Earning in myLot

I have seen a lot of discussions about earnings and stars and rates in myLot but I honestly can't comprehend them. I was just told that you earn for posting discussions, so I joined. I enjoyed myLot too much that I really really try to find time for it despite my super duper hectic schedule and forgot about the "earning" part. But from time to time I would still see discussions about it. So now I want to ask. HOW EXACTLY DO YOU EARN IN MYLOT? Do you get paid for starting a discussion? Responding to discussions? If you earn money and points, is it possible to lose them too? How do you get the stars? What is the significance of the stars? I really enjoy this site because I feel that I'm doing something worthwhile by contributing my thoughts to other people's sentiments. I also get to unburden my load and get valuable responses from people here. Although I kinda have to work on my friends. I hope to hear from you all. Thanks!
