Last Samurai Vs Dances With Wolves (Similarities)

Do any of you see similarities between these two movies? I definitely do. (spoilers)
They both were in the American army...they join the opposing side they originally came to the area for...
The lead end up falling in love with a woman on that side...
The lead character write in a journal / diary and it is some times narrated.
The lead character learns the other's language.
Both movies describe the fall of a culture.
Well there's my thoughts. Anyone ever see those similarities before??
But I love each movie seperately as an individual film.

I absolutely agree with you. I think The Last Samurai took the premise of Dances With Wolves and changed up things tomake it a differnt story, but the basics are the same. they are both terrific movies and I do love the both but I have to give the edge to Dances With Wolves, but the Last Samurai is real close behind.
