I dont want to sound retarded, but this one has really stumped me. Being that the chinese and japanese use symbols for their language, how do they use a computer? Even if my computer has the ability of Chinese or Japanese for a language, what about the keyboard, do they have a special keyboard for them to use? I am NOT being a smart a** or meaning to be disrespectful. I just have never seen it here in the U.S and dont know how the conversion thing works for them??

i teach koreans online so I should know a little something about korean keyboard. TO convert english to korean, i just have to hit ALT, it will automatically changed to hanggul alphabet. I think it's pretty much the same for chinese and japanese. After all, globablization has already on its high, and countries in the East are trying to expand their technology to other territories.

There are various ways of typing in Chinese. Chinese (traditional) Computers in the Republic of China (Taiwan) often use Zhuyin (bopomofo) style keyboards (US keyboards with bopomofo labels), many also with Cangjie method key labels, as Cangjie is the standard method for speed-typing in Traditional Chinese. The bopomofo style keyboards are in lexicographical order, top-to-bottom left-to-right. (from Wikipedia's article which shows keyboard layouts for most of the commonly used arrangements: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout )

I'm Chinese,so maybe I could tell you something. You can press "shift" and "ctrl" to choose the language you want to use.I think you are confused on how Chinese characters are created in conputer, that's "Pinyin",each Chinese character has its own pinyin which contains 1-6 letters.Pinyin tells you how to read one character.I don't know whether my explanation is clear enough.

China uses the Pinyin System. hmm.. how do i explain it. In the computer there is a choice that you select for you to be able to type chinese. then you type using the alphabet and choose the words from there. for example, i want to type the Chinese character for Beijing. The pinyin for that is exactly the same B-E-I J-I-N-G notice there are two words, bei and jing. so i type b,e,i and then “?” appears. then i type j,i,n,g and "?“ appears. that's ”??“, the Chinese characters for "Beijing". using the same qwerty keyboard :) hope that helped!
