I grew up on Heinlein and Arthur C Clarke, Roger Zelazny, Marrion Zimmer Bradley and the like. I am looking for some new, up and coming sci fi authors. Who do you like?

Not up and coming, but these are 10 sci-fi authors whom works I highly recommend: 1. Heinlein 2. Asimov 3. Arthur C. Clarke 4. Ray Bradbury 5. Philip K. Di ck 6. Robert Silverberg 7. Orson Scott Card 8. Zelazny 9. Frank Herbert 10. John Varley

I love all of them as well. The only one I'm not familiar with is John Varney. May I ask what he has written?

I would recommend Garth Nix, Phillip Pullman, Christopher Paolini, Eoin Colfer, and Darren Shan.

My kids love Darren Shan. I wish they would turn some of his novels into movies, they are so popular.

Just an addition : Frank Herbert and his Dune series. Very nice book, really good. I recommend that you at least try it. Have a nice day.

I know that Bruce Sterling and William Gibson are, what they call, punk SFers. Bruce was an Austin Tx local until he got a job in CA a couple of years back. I asked if his wife was going but the answer was no. I went to school with his wife (probably ex now)
