Have you seen Chevy's new hybrid car?

Chevy Volt - their answer to a hybrid car that truly can run the highway for hundreds of miles without recharging

The Chevy Volt was brought out and displayed with tons of hoopla BUT there was a catch.... right now it's so expensive to make that you would put out literally hundreds of thousands of dollars to purchase. The reason is the battery that runs the car is so expensive to make. While Chevy/GM claims that they could possibly put this car on the market in 3-4 years, some experts scoff and say it's a good 10 years before they figure out how to create a battery of that magnitude and strength for a lot less money. Right now the car can run hundreds, even thousands of miles on one full battery charge. Something most hybrids are incapable of right now.

Toyota has been marketing hybrid cars for sometime. Sorry, I'm a Japanese car and especially a Toyota fan. My goal is to buy a Toyota Prius, although my family laughs at me. I am on my second Toyota Echo now. I think this is a car made for my dreams...unfortunately they have discontinued the Echo and the Celica (my other dream car). My new dream car is the Prius or the hybrid SUV they are now selling. In my opinion, even before hybrids, Toyota has the American car dealers and most other car dealers of all nationalities way beat!! If I had to go non-Japanese, I would want a Mercedes Smart Car.

Oh, it's not a matter of the hybrid being "new" as a whole but I guess it's because it truly can run for hundred and hundreds of miles that makes this version different. To be honest.. I think they've had a lot of the ability for quite some time but they've left it on the back burner. It's not feesible for the big oil companies, the big businesses, etc. to allow it to happen.

The car sounds cool. 10 years from now traffic congestion will probably be so bad that we'll only be driving a few miles an hour anyway. So we may be able to run a car on a pair of AA batteries. Or a hamster in a cage in the glove compartment. ;-)
