Why spend so much on kids shoes?

Seriously, I understand the urge to buy the cute little Nike's that cost $30-$40 but honestly kids outgrow their shoes so quickly, and little kids are so rough on them. Whats the point of having shoe's they can't wear and get dirty....by the time you are finally okay with your kid wearing them in the sandbox they will have outgrown them. My daughter had her cute little Nike's that were a gift but as much as I loved them and they were adorable, I wouldn't go out and buy new ones every single time she outgrows them. And she outgrows them quickly and if she doesn't outgrow them then she wears them out playing. My daughters Croc's from last year lasted half the summer, she went through a total of 3 pair of sandals last summer. From simply playing hard in the yard, at the park and at daycare. I am not buying the cheap Walmart ones either but I refuse to spend $40 for a pair that she is going to go through in two months. Guess I don't get it. Just because you can? Is that why? Its just so pointless...

I half-way agree with you- we have one son, but are planning on having more, so I hhave bought him 2 nice pair of Nike shoes, the first he has grown out of, but I am saving for if we have another boy and the second he is wearing right now and I will save also for if we have another boy. I realize that when they get older, shoes get too thrashed to save, but if they can be used more than once, why not buy the nice ones. My mom always bought a pair of nice shoes and play shoes for my brothers, they wore their nice ones to dinner, church, etc...

I only buy inexpensive shoes for my grandkids. I bring them to the store and let them pick out what they would like. I also tell them what my price range is and if it doesn't fall within that range, we do not buy them. Kids need to know that they do not need to spend a fortune on anything. They need to learn how to save money and be frugal too. We always leave the store happy with the purchase that we have made. They are happy because they selected the item and I am happy that I still save a buck or two.
