UK Passports

How many of you guys have had trouble getting passports? Just wondered about other peoples opinion on this. My friend who is 35 has just applied for her first ever passport only to be sent a letter asking for verification of who she is and that she has been in the country for the last 3 years. The main problem is that during that time she left a stressful marriage and changed bank accounts etc. The passport office want confirmation from landlord etc that she was actually in the country but it has to be written personally by someone who knows her! Council have told her they won't cos she was not the main name on the lease - she would have to get her (bitter) ex to get the letter! She has been in tears tring to fight her way out of the red tape - even though a perfectly qualified person who has known her for MANY years has verified who she is TWICE! I know that int he time of 'The War Against Terror' there have to be security checks but it seems from recent documentariesthat it is far easier to get fake passports than for a real British citizen to get a British Passport. What do you guys think

Well, I am here in California and I am actually having the same problem believe it or not. I am trying to get a passport for my daughter because we are going on a cruise. i had to give them all kinds of info about how she is with me and her dad hasn't seen her and stuff. I think I finally have it taken care of though. My sons was no problem, his dad signed the paperwork that I needed.

Hope it all works ou for you! I never had to get my other half to sign any of my kids passport stuff but I suppose they are tightening up cos of 9/11, or is it cos of abduction laws or something?

I think it is a mixture of both. But primarily abduction laws. I understand their side of it. I don't understand his. He won't sign but yet doesn't want to deal with her either.

Well that should not be happening as the Forms are the thing that counts and there is a part on there that states someone has to verify her that has known her at least 3 years, she wants to find out why she needs all this. I will be re applying soon as mine got stolen years ago which I reported, so they better not give me this grief.

Yeah I know but she had her form and stuff filled in and her photo signed etc, as well as sending form and photo back to the person who filled it in and asking for confirmation they are also looking for other officials to verify who she is. Think the problem is cos she has NEVER had a passport before and is newly divorced! Hope it all goes smoothly for you!

I never travel far mummymo, aside within asia that's why I really don't experience the agony of applying visa, lucky me lol!!! But in the future maybe 10 years from now wherein everything will be computerized I really think or hopeful that applying for a VISA for US, UK or NEW ZEALAND will not be that hard as of now. AS filipino we really have hard time applying for one hu!hu!hu!

Nope This just started so I have to go get one and I don't know for $600 if it's worth having just to go to Canada. R
