Anyone else have ulceritive colitis?

I have had it for a few years taking meds and for those who dont know what it is its bleeding of the lower intenstine. The meds im taking are supposed to weaken my immune system because its attacking it. Kind of like a catch 22 . The thing is they arent working that great anymroe and im scared one day my immune system will be so weak. The specialist tells me diet has nothing to do with it but then I was reading on some websites that diet has cured some people. Im starting to think the doctor just wants to sell me meds. Im considering seeing a nutritionist now.

My son has UC. He is taking Asacol which seems to help. Only problem is, with UC, there is a form of arthritis that comes along with it. His joints really ache and swell. We are having him checked right now by a rheumatologist.
