Who's heard of the black sapote? I just saw something on TV about it, and it's nothing I've ever yeard of. Apparently it tastes just like chocolate! I even saw someone make desserts using the black sapote instead of cocoa! Where can I get it? I really really REALLY want to try it! It sounds like it's the perfect low fat chocolate substitute! I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed this!!!

The Black Sapote is a Tomato-like fruit, 10 x 13 cm. large berry with a thin and firm rind. Its color is shining dark green with brown specs. The fruitflesh is rich, dark brown colored and custard like and is therefore called the Chocolate pudding fruit. Complete ripe fruits are often ugly brown. Black sapote's flesh is rich and custard-like, with a sweet, nut-like mild flavor and when ripe fruit pulp is blended with milk, cream or ice-cream, it tastes like mild chocolate - but without the caffeine or calories! http://www.daleysfruit.com.au/plant/Black-Sapote-Chocolate-Pudding-Fruit.htm

if you live in the states you pretty much have to buy the seeds and grow your own since the fruit isn't harvested and sold on the market, mostly just eaten by the locals.

Oh, god. You've just started me drooling all over my keyboard!! I shall have to look it up further! Thanks for the linkie! I'm in Australia. I didn't know they came in seed form. I'll have to go to the nursery and see if I can find the seeds! I wonder ho wlong it will take before I get to taste my first fruit, if I grow from seed! lol. Could be drooling for a while!
