Do any of you work with yoru children during the summer on skills for the up coming school year? Is there one set of books, cds, etc that you find work better than others. My son will be in an activity day camp during the summer and we are putting him in a reading program to help fill the gaps the school system leaves. I also like working with him in other subjects to put him ahead of where he needs to be so he doesn't struggle with homework i the upcoming school year. We currently use the Jumpstart system, but I am wondering if there is something better..

I work with my son and pretty much anyone who will lend an ear so I may pass on some of my experiences on a year round basis. Here is something though you may be interested in for yourself and for your children. I had recommended this to my son, but of course he knows more than me, and now he looks back and realizes what I told him. Before I say this I want to let you know I am not affiliated with this school but found it while in prison looking for ways to broaden my education. Look up Texas Tech, they have education programs by correspondence that are available from Kindergarten through your Masters if I remember correctly and it is not that expensive and they are accredited. Now if you use this program it helps you be more involved with education, in addition, at some point your little one will be advanced and when it comes time for him to go to college, he will be well prepared and may not have to take a full load with other hard classes.

I am not really interested in getting a teaching accreditation right now. I am more interested in giving my son the best education he can get. I would be more interested in becoming accredited if I was a SAHM and I could home school him.

You can go to Abeca books and pick out some realy good things. It is a home school program but you can choose different books and things that you would like to use during the summer.I use it all of the time even during the school year.
