What medications have you tried in order to get some sleep?

I've had a serious sleeping disorder for over 5 years now. I take a sleeping pill(zopiclone)pretty well every night now. I try and limit myself to half a pill as much as possible. This normally means I will get 4-5 hours of sleep. Unfortunately, I don't believe it is sound sleep, as I never feel very well rested in the morning and most days are a struggle. What have you tried that has worked for you? Any ideas would be a big help.

I don't know just how serious your sleep disorder is and what all you've tried, but how about something considered minor to the things a doctor can prescribe? something like tylenol pm...those things get the job done as far as trying to get to sleep is concerned..they might not have much of an affect on you, but you can give it a try...

I was able to experience the same issues on sleeping and the thing that i usually do is to take a warm bath before going to sleep . On this way my muscles would tend to be relaxed and right after the shower my body just want to lie down and sleep. Avoid doing vigorous activies 3 hrs before your usual sleeping time.

I use Ambien from time to time but like to stick with herbal stuff if I can. Valarien / Valarian Root is a good thing to try or Sleepy Time Tea. I have had insomnia for a long time now and just 'deal with it' and get work done at night when everyone else is sleeping. I use it to my advantage most of the time, when I get tired I take a nap. That doesn't work for everyone so don't give up.

I'v tried amitryptyline, which is an antidepressant but if you only take a low quantity, one of the side effects, at least for me was a good sleep. I don't know how safe it is now though as it's an old medication. I also use over the counter sleeping pills but then I noticed they have the exact same ingredient as Benadryl but Benadryl is cheaper, so I take that. I also take Gravol.
