Using a dictionary or just a good speller?

I find I have a dictionary handy and do have to look up how to spell "some" words! I always thought I was a pretty good speller but there are some words that really make the brain work overtime and so then resort to the little book for some help! How about you? Is this the case while you sit in front of the computor with your fingers doing all the talking or are you one that can spell all the words correctly? Now come on, be honest, no "walk of shame" in admitting it! lol :) caramello.

I'm lucky as spelling has always been one of my strong points. Have you considered maybe using Firefox instead as it has a spell checker built into it. That way you wouldn't have to look up words all the time and it also highlights the words that have been spelt incorrectly. (and yes it has an Australian spelling setting lol)

I've never been a wonderful speller and consult the dictionary allot and I also have a electronic speller that I keep next to the computer I actually brought it for my partner as I was tired of him constantly asking me how to spell words when I have trouble sometimes to... I've noticed a lot while typing my brain seems to be faster than my typing so I always tend to hit the wrong buttons... :D

I have always thought myself to be very good at spelling. In fact, I have a pet peeve with people who can't spell. Whenever I find an error in someone's work, I have to let them know about it. Lately I have been trying not to let it bother me so much. When I am composing work at the keyboard and I encounter a word that I am having difficulty with spelling, I think about it, write it out and then check the dictionary for the correct spelling. Often times I am correct.

I'm lucky enough to be a very good speller; most of mistakes are typos. I always did well in spelling in school. I don't often use the dictionary for spelling, but I make it a habit to always look up a word if I don't know the meaning. I keep a little notepad on my desk and have a page where I write the words and the meaning so that I can look it over every once in a while. This is a good way for me to learn new words and to increase my vocabulary.

The majority of words in my own language english I know them but there are a few words that I still look up in the dictionary, as some of our words when not used on a regular basis we are inclinded to forget the exact way it is spelt.

I usually find that I can just type away, and spell most things the way that they should be. The only word that ever gets spelt correctly is 'correctly'. For some things I need to use a dictionary, such as liaise, (and no I knew that one) but I usually find other words to go in the place of them. My biggest problem is that I type at 62 wpm, so I do 'teh' or 'hte' instead of 'the' and stuff like that. I do, however, go back and correct them. Perhaps myLot should consider a spell checker, to pick up things like that.

I am a good speller most of the time, but my problem comes when I am typing and the fingers sometimes move ahead of the brain, more so if I am tired. That is when words run together and sometimes they get a little bit confused or back to front. I am sure that the fault is with the computer rather than me though. LOL At the same time I do have to say that where the computer is set up, there is a book case above the screen. It holds an assortment of things, including 2 dictionaries as well as a thesaurus, all of which I have been known to use more than once, to check the spelling of a word. The thing is that often we do know how to spell the word, but hesitate and think it could be some other way. At least that is the problem that I find I have, and in most instances I had spelt it correctly the first time, which goes to prove the point that sometimes it is dangerous to think. Also having and using a dictionary is a good thing, and if ever you have grandchildren, you are setting them a good example, because certainly spelling does not seem to be a major priority in education these days.

I use a spell check Franklin. It's compact, and helps me with words all the time.

I always keep my dictionary near my hands as I feel it takes hardly any time to correct yourself if dictionary is nearby and that way I am always surrounde by many dictionaries whether at workplace as well as home.

I used to be really good at spelling, and I thought I still was. I guess it's been too long since I have been out of school. Anyway, what I do is to type things out in Word, then copy them to myLot. I never realized how many spelling mistakes I made until I started watching the spell checker in action. I really wish there were a spell check feature on myLot. It would make things so much easier.
