ERA and our Economy

How has the women's movement and liberation affected our economy? During WWII women began entering the work force in ways that mostly only men would consider before - doing what was necessary to pick up the slack during a time that our loved ones were off to war.... but the men came back and the women remained a force in the working world - at times a force to be reckoned with. How do you think this has effected our economy? the good the bad and the ugly.

Well, they are generally working harder than before, especially since many are doing a job and also running a home. Economic theory would tend to suggest that where more work is being done, there will be consumers for it. Thus, it is probably a great thing for the economy. Whether that is true for the work-life balance, well - that is probably something for a different discussion?
