Rom on tower no longer acknowledges CDs of anysort, but DVD lens Cleaners work.

I was in the middle of burning a CD when out of nowhere, the machine (Emachines T8216 I believe is the model) stopped burning, after that happened I tried a another empty CDR and all it did was start running for a brief moment, then making an annoying rattling sound, then slowing down. Ever since then, whenever I insert a CD of any kind, it either does that running than slowing down by an annoying rattle thing, then quiting after a couple minutes, or just quiting right away when I first insert the disc. Windows Media Player won't even acknowledge the cd. When I put in a DVD Lens Cleaner, it works fine,acknowledges it with no problem. I could just by another CD Rom burner, but in order for me to do that, I'd have to insert the the CD that comes with it, and of cousrse that will not work. An annoyed Emachines user who only wants to make CDs for his own personal use.
