Whatever Happened to Good Reverse Phone Search Directories?

I used to be able to type in a phone number and get the city, state, and at least the name of the person who called, possibly even an address. Now, someone calls with an unfamiliar number, and I look up the phone number to find that I can only see the city and state, otherwise I have to pay $10. I'm not going to pay $10 everytime someone calls my cellphone and I don't know who they are. Why is this public information no longer free?

That's something that I would never pay for. I use http://www.anywho.com but be warned, there are a couple of pop up adverts to deal with. This site is free, I just used it like three minutes ago. It gave me the name and address of the phone number listed with no fee.

Hmm, I'll have to try that with other numbers then. Maybe it only works with listed numbers, as I can't get this one to come up. I wouldn't pay either. I guess if it was something really important (like they left a message and I knew them and needed to get there right away), but it's unlikely.

If it is a cell number there are times when it will display the provider company like Verizon or Mobile One but most of the time it just says that there isn't any information. I did have a bunch of these bookmarked but they were all erased when my hard drive crashed back in January.

Which site do you use? The one I use I think it's whitepages.com I can usually find it unless it's a cellphone number.

That one gave me a bit more info. Also told me it was a landline, but still no name. I was using reversephonedirectory.com before, and previously it gave excellent results.
