My partner just found out that she is diabetic type 2. We went to the classes to learn about all the stuff you shouldn't eat etc. If anyone out there could tell me how to cook better for her and myself I would appreciate it. She is not insulin dependent. She is on Metformin. She does test herself 4 times daily. I am knew to cooking, and cooking for a diabetic is hard for me to do. Any websites, or books etc would help me out. What worked for you.

Both diet and exercise are important. As far as diet, cut way down on refined carbs. These are things like sugars and starches. Examples would be anything sweetened and potatoes, rice, pasta and baked goods. Focus on non-starchy vegetables. Avoid peas, corn, carrots. Exercise is the other half of control. A good experiment would be for your partner to check her blood glucose, exercise, then test it again. This gives some immediate positive feedback, and shows diabetics how much can be done with exercise. If she's overweight, cutting refined carbs will help with weight loss, which helps diabetic control a lot.
