Why do so many men cook better than women?

Have you ever noticed how the best chefs in the world are men? I wonder why that is. For some reason there are so many women out there who just have no idea about cooking. Not only that, they hate cooking. Lately with all the cooking shows on t.v., women are finally making their presence felt. I watch Rachel Rae all the time. Meals in 30 minutes are right down my alley. I know when I was married, my wife was an awful cook. She always got so nervous when her parents showed up for the holidays. However, that was o.k. because I have always loved cooking so I took over the cooking duties for the time I was married. How about you? Is there someone in your life who is a great cook?

Hello Ironstruck, I used to wonder about this myself until one day my sister who studied in hospitality industry told me that being a chef requires a lot of physical endurance/power. Because it's only about standing in front of the stove or table to do some work but also some weight lift, stand the heat while stirring and so on. Her boyfriend who works a chef also told me the same reason. About few women being professional chefs, I think apart from physical endurance/power (I wish I knew a better word to express this) in which men are stronger, I think it is also because even until today, working women are still much less than working men. It is not any different from what happen in other professional working areas. Men still dominate the working world so to speak which is alright because I believe that is what men are supposed to do, a breadwinner for the family. And I think one of the implications of many working women nowadays is that they are not able to cook well. Because the time limitation they have. Take me for an example. I went working for a full-time job straight after graduation. And since my mom usually takes care of the cooking stuff at home, I have never been accustomed to cook before. Weekends are full of other activities that learning to cook is not in the agenda, hahaha! Although I am determined that once I can settle as a housewife, I will certainly learn how to cook.

Thank you for your 'best response' to this discussion. I think it is important that children are taught early how to cook, because eating will always be a big part of their lives.

Dear Ironstruck, it's my pleasure and I should thank you instead. And yes I agree with you, we should learn how to cook especially because homemade cook tend to use less artificial ingredients (I don't know how to say it in English), thus healthier and of course cheaper so we can use the money for something else. Once again, thank you for the best response. You have interesting discussions here...=)

My husband is a very good cook. I never wanted to learn what he cooks because I am scared he will criticize my cooking. But when he's in the mood for Filipino food I am the queen of the kitchen.
