The boss was complaining in our staff meeting the other day that he wasn't getting any respect. Later that morning he went to a local sign shop and bought a small sign that read: "I'm the Boss!" He then taped it to his office door. Later that day when he returned from lunch , he found that someone had taped a note to the sign that said: "Your wife called, she wants her sign back!"

We can never command respect. It is earned. If we are the boss, then act as such. We can always compel our subordinates to do what they need to do without stressing our position. This behaviour shows a whole lot of insecurities. (your post is funny though :D )

That was funny but I think that employees should know when to draw the line. It's okay to be friendly with the boss but not just because he treats you nicely just as he would treat his friends, or you are friends with each other, we as employers should still know how to respect him as "the boss". Even if you and the boss have been friends long before you worked together respect should still be in place. You can be buddies outside but give him what is due him in the office. After all, he is the boss and he earned or he worked hard to be in his position so we employers should respect that.

Bad Memories Ben and Haley had gotten up in years, and their memories weren't quite what they used to be. They found it beneficial to write things down so as not to forget them. One evening they were sitting in the parlor and Haley said, "Ben, be a dear and go to the kitchen and fix me a dish of ice cream and put some chocolate syrup and peanuts on it. And, Ben, write it down so you don't forget the peanuts." "That's a good idea, Dear." Ben said, and wrote it on the notepad and headed for the kitchen. Ben was in the kitchen for a while, and returned with a plate of bacon and eggs. Haley looked at it and said, "Oh Ben, you forgot the breakfast toast."

He doesnt act like a boss..Respect is not asked it is gaines and given to you, without asking it from others.. Respect for oneself and to others first before having respect from others..

That's funny. But he doesn't seem like much of a boss if he is acting in such childish ways. In order to be a good boss you can't only expect respect you must give it. You need your team in order to succeed or you might as well just give up. He seems to wrapped up in the title than making sure he does his job correctly which is probably why people don't respect him. He needs to role up his sleeves and starting working within the company to gain respect from his employees

If the boss gives respect to others, she/he will get it back. Just because one is the boss doesn't mean they get respect. It is not something the boss can command. You get what you give.
