The Couple The McDonalds was not overly crowed Friday when everyone took notice of a little man and woman came through the doors. Age had slowed them down a bit but you could still see the sparkle in their eye as they made their way to the counter. The woman stood behind her husband as he started to order their dinner. "I want a hamburger, small fries, and a small coke please". The old ladies hand reached up and touched the old man's shoulder. The patrons in the restaurant were amazed at this communication. With a touch he knew what his wife wanted. The old man stood at the counter waiting for the food and the old lady went to prepare a table for them. She grabbed two napkins, two straws, and one container of ketchup. She proceeded to the table and set a place for them both. The other couples in the restaurant looked on with admiration. The old man made his way back to the table carrying the tray with the meager dinner on it. He sat down and the old lady opened the hamburger broke it into half, took half for herself then laid the other on a napkin in front of her husband. In the same way she took the fries and divided them equally between them. They held hands in prayer and started to eat what food they had. The old man would take a bite of his hamburger, and then take a sip of the drink, and then the old lady did the same. A young man at a table across from them felt sorry in his mind because they didn't have enough money to feed them both. Gathering his nerves he got up and walk over to the old couples table. "I really hate to intruder sir," The young man said voice shaking. "I wish to buy you another dinner so you can both eat." The little old lady looked up to the young man and said with a smile in her eye, "young man we have plenty of money we don't need anything. You see we have been married for over sixty years and this is how we do things. You see son when we go married back in 1945 after the war things were tough for us. Thomas just got back from the war and I worked as an assistant in a doctor's office. Thing we tough but we made it trough will love and understanding gone by and we both know that we are not much longer in this earth. The one wish that we have is that we can spend the remaining time that we have left totally dedicated to each other. Tom managed a hardware store and there was many late nights where we didn't get to see each other. That went on for forty years. For forty years we lost so much time together and now we wish to gain them back. Thanks for your concern son, but we are fine as long as we are together. The young man apologized and excused himself. When he left McDonalds he felt as if something had changed inside his self. He thought about Rachel sitting at home while he went out with his friends. That was where he was going now when he stopped to get a bite to eat. Thinking about his wife he turned the car around and drove back home. He got home and ran to the house. Rachel sat on the couch, sleeping with book she was reading on her lap. He looked at her and tears started to fall down his face. Without waking her he went into the dinning room. The tears flowed faster when he saw the dinner still on the table. What was he doing? Why was he letting the best years of his life slip away? He grabbed the plates from the table and combined the contents into one plate and poured a single drink. He put the dinner on a dinner tray and walked to the living room. "Baby", he said gently shaking her." "Ted, what are you doing here I had given up hope on seeing you until tomorrow." Ted shook his head and sat down beside her. "I was baby I was going out tonight with some friends but something happened. Something that I saw made me reevaluate the way I feel about you. I will tell you about it later but for now eat this dinner with me and let's talk." Ted brushed her hair from his eyes and continued, "Let's not waste anymore time honey. Let's make every second count. I love you and we are busy enough in our lives that we shouldn't take the time we have and waste it. Never again baby, I will dedicate every minuet I have to you. If I want to go out then I see no reason not to make it a date the way we used to. This is a promised baby, I will always be there for you, I love you, and can you forgive a fool for nopt realizing what we had?" Tears were pouring down Rachel's face, their were million things woing through her mind that she wanted to say but the only thing she manage was simply, I love you baby. Sixty years later an old man and woman walked into a McDonalds. They walked to the counter and ordered a hamburger, small fries,a nd a coke. Ted looked at Rachel and said, "Do you want a strawberry shake sweetheart." Rachel smile and shook her head.

It's great, inspiring indeed. Sometimes I think being together is one good reason enough for those who love one another. Made me think about it for a while. Sometimes, I wonder why ... Thanks for sharing

This is a beautiful story. One we should all take note of. Thank you for sharing it. I can tell you it made me take a look at what I am doing. I think sometimes we all get so caught up in everything we forget about the basics. Maybe that is why the divorce rate is so high now. Thank you again it was wonderful.
