Another Australian icon has gone to meet his maker this weekend. How many of you recognise the name Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs? I don't know how well known he was overseas but he was a Rock 'n' Roll legend here. I remember seeing him when I was a mere child of 13. It was at a butchers picnic day which I was lucky eneogh to attend with my best friend whose dad was a butcher. It was my first taste of modern music and I just loved it. I could do 'the twist' but it was 'the stomp' that was the dance of the afternoon. It took me another couple of years to get 'the stomp' down pat along with 'the monkey' and 'the swim'. We lost so many beaut Australians in the last several months; the wildlife warrior, Steve Irwin; the motor racing champion, Peter Brock; kid's author, Colin Thiele who wrote Storm Boy among others; and now our rock 'n' roll guru, Billy Thorpe of a heart attach\k at a fairly young age... May you rest in peace bro.

I know about Billy Thorpe. Children of The Sun was one of my favorite songs back in the day. It does seem like so many great people are leaving us now days. The things they've left us with will always be here though.

What a beaut thought. We tend to get coaught up in sad passings and forget what they have given us and left in our safe keeping. Thanks for the reminder to dwell on the positive. You win the prize dfinster. ;)

I have never heard of Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, so I can only assume that the majority of their music remained in Australia. Of course I recognise the names of the other people that you refer to, especially Steve Irwin who was a very popular television personality here in England.
