lol You made it too easy .When I had come across this the first time in a book I had seen the faces.Just like now even at that time I could make out two faces ,but could never say if they were lovers or not :-P

It's an optical illusion.
The object actually is a vase, why would anyone draw two faces but they put more details on the space between ?
