Pagents, Beauty contests

Do you think beauty contests or pagents are a good thing? I myself find them a bit silly. Especially when people say it is a personality contest more than a beauty contest. i do not care much for the ones with little kids in them. I feel grownups are free to decide to take part in this, but I feel children should not get that focused on looks. Where I come from pagents are not held often - I've never heard of any for kids around here. So it may be that I do not really get it. maybe I'd like them more if I was more used to them. What are your views on this?

I am against any beauty contest. It is not easy to measure beauty.I think it is internal and not external.

Well said! I really do not understand how anyone like to take part in these things. I would feel so stupid walking around on a stage wearing a swimsuit, and answer questions about war and peace.

I fully share your views, I do not understand this emphasis on beauty. In my eyes everything is beautiful, and I feel god has made so many beautiful sites and ther is no competetion there so why this much of wastage in such events. There are better issues to be tackled in life this beauty paegents are totally waste of time and money.

I think they are so stupid. What is the point of making people feel bad because they aren't as pretty as someone else? And who even cares about who's pretty? It's what's on the inside that counts. Sometimes people say that it's about personality too, but have you ever seen an unattractive person with a great personality win a contest like that? No. And as far as the ones with kids go, don't even get me started!

I absolutely don't believe in them for any age. If people could take part in these things and still maintain a decent lifestyle that's one thing but in our society today the emphasis is put on looking good. As long as you have the perfect body, best designer clothes, best hair do the whitest teeth and the list goes on it doesn't seem to matter about manners and the feelings of others. I'm not fit for a pagent but I'm a good mom and a wonderful grandma. I get told that every day !!! Thank You for this post.

This obsession with looks have gone far to far. I just read that 7 of 10 grade school girls want to change somthing on their bodies. We need more smart and strong women as rolemodels.

I used to love beauty pageants when I was in middle school. Maybe it's because my gay best friend was so into it. He even knows all the Miss Universe winners from every year. LOL. We used to play beauty pageants too. LOL. Those were the good old days. I've heard that beauty pageants really helps out some girls with their college since they offer scholarships. You should watch Miss Congeniality. It's a hoot.

I am inclined to agree with your view - that they are really silly... I feel that it is more a platform for people with nice bods to show off. And we, as the audience, are just feeding them with our attention.
