MyLot - Are Admin Doing Enough?

Canada
March 4, 2007 6:36pm CST
I've read more and more discussions recently where some members are being abused and harassed by other members. These members seem to feel that its their mission in life to make fun of the hard work of other members, and abuse their work by leaving ridiculously childish tags, or call them names, or do something retardedly stupid like copying and pasting the words of the discussion into their response without any thoughts of their own. I see members who are so upset about this that they're thinking about leaving MyLot permanently because they can't keep being abused like they are. It shouldn't have to come to this. This is a free website for us all to enjoy, but there are certain "Do's and Don'ts" and we should abide by those. They're in place for a reason. My question is this. Do you think that the MyLot Admin are doing enough to nip this kind of behavior in the bud before it gets out of hand? Or should they be doing more? Do you feel their responses to your complaints are satisfactory? Do they even respond at all?

I think there needs to be stricter enforcement and policies about any kind of harrassment. I've never sent in a complaint to Mylot so I don't know how they respond to them. I have sent 2 or 3 questions and have never heard back from them. So, instead of waiting for an answer I post the question and every time I've gotten the help that I've needed from the Mylot members. So that's a positive point about some of the members here and I'm greatful to them for all their help.

I definitely agree with you about the stricter enforcements and policies. I reported a coupla people, but I too have sent in a few questions regarding payment and as of yet, I've heard nothing back from them. I have posted a question once before about this but the members couldn't really help me as such except to offer their opinion. It's nice though that so many tried. The MyLotters are awesome people.

While I haven't fallen victim to any of the meanness that is going on, and haven't personally witnessed any such acts I can't answer to that part. I can say that I have had wonderful response from admin when I have contacted them for one reason or other. I think that the more people that report that sort of abuse the faster mylot is to respond. We should be doing our part when we see such ugliness. No one should have to leave here, unless they choose and certainly not because of personal attacks. Just because you don't agree with someone doesn't mean that they shouldn't be in this forum. We all have or own opinions, and should be allowed to freely express them so long as we aren't personally attacking specific members. I can tell you that I have reported some abuse of the guidelines and at least one member was banned for it. I will keep an eye out for the abuse that you speak of and upon seeing it will be happy to do my part here and report it. With the efforts of all maybe we can rid mylot of such persons. As always this is just me 2 cents worth. :)

I too have reported abuse in the past, but nothing like what I've seen some people being upset about in recent days. I feel so sad for those people who feel that admin are really not helping, or that they feel they have no choice but to leave permanently. It shouldn't have to come to this.

ummm.well once or twice I heard that profiels of users doing nothing, or creating nay kind of nuisance on the site are being terminated or deleted by mylot.... but I heard that only once...except for that i dont have a very clear idea about the whole picture.... but yes definitely we can do one thing,,, wherever, on whichever post you find some non sense material, just rate it with a '-'..... make sure you dont do it to everyone -- not also to a person who might be going against the topic to present his views but to only those who are playing pranks or being not genuine....that might help...what say ?

I've never heard of profiles of inactive users being terminated but then I too haven't been here long. It's just that when people are being abused, and they report it to Admin, admin don't seem to be doing anything about it and in the meantime, these people are still getting abused by other users. Mylot should be a happy place to be, but unfortunately, for a few of us, it's not.

Like you I have noticed this more frequently and have, on occasion, hit the report button. It isn't fair that a minority of people are deliberately setting out to cause upset and distress.

Thank you for your response. I totally agree with you. Most of us on here are just normal people with normal lives and we come on here to talk about different things with the friends we've made. It's not right that there are those who spoil it for us, and that they get away with it. More definitely needs to be done to combat this.

After reading your words, all of us should think of why we join in mylot.Nobody wants to be abused by others. Most of us just want to make some friends and enjoy the website.I agree wity your words, and "there're certain 'Do's and Don'ts' and we should abike by those".I don't think Mylot Admin have done enough.More rules should be made and we all need self-love.They also need to listen to our suggestions about mylot and improve it. As for responds,I only read their words and won't matter how many responds they have made...If they are really pertinent,I would of course mark them best, even though he may be a new user.Words from one's heart are constant feast. Also if you want to win other's respect, you must respect others first.... Do you agree with me?

"Words from one's heart are a constant feast." Those words are so so true. I completely agree with everything you've said here and it all makes so much sense. Thanks for responding.

Almost a week back,I found two such discussions by the same lady being critisized by the same person.I found the posts offensive and personal and was tempted to report them, but being new here I didn't want to do anything wrong. Now that you say that some are so upset that they are contemplating leaving mylot permanently I realise my mistake.Next time I find such posts with unnecessary offense directed towards others I will make sure I do the right things.Admin, I find has been very good when it comes to the development and additions to the site ,but I don't know if they are taking actions when such threads are reported. It would be in the interest in the community to make sure things are done rightly from hereon rather than hoping someone else would.Well, thanks for the information. It 'is' going to help in future.

Hi Bluewings - Never be afraid to report things that you feel are wrog or are against the Mylot rules. It doesn't matter if you're new or not, Ive only been here a little over 2 weeks. Reporting abuse is the only way that admin are going to find out about such things. I think they're taking action in that they remove offensive posts, but they're not banning members where they should be and thats not fair to the rest of us.

Well now we are more than 75,000 mylot people and naturally it is a mixed crowd so all sorts of persons are bound to be there. I feel we can stick to some of the like minded people and ignore those who are their to through abuses. If a person is abusive it is his problem not ours so console your friends and good people are also there try to convince them not to leave mylot, if good people start leaving then it would not be good for others.

Thanks for posting that Tammy. The issue that a lot of members have is that they are actually reporting these people and nothing is being done about it. Mylot expect us to do our bit as members so we do, yet they're not doing anything about it at their end. They may delete an offensive post, but the member that started it is not reprimanded or even given a warning. I have made a couple of complaints to Mylot admin before about things I had issues with, and they never even replied. Mylot is growing quickly to a huge community, but it doesn't mean that standards should slip.

I agree with you. More needs to be done by the administration about this situation. I'm happy with my MyLot Experience so far, but I know that many aren't. Some act out because thay are unhappy, and some are unhappy because others are acting out. I wish MyLot Admin would fix it once and for all.

I totally agree with you. I too am happy with my personal Mylot experience, but it breaks my heart when others say they're leaving because they're being abused and admin are doing nothing about it. Mylot really need to think about setting stricter guidelines and following through on them in order to make Mylot a better place to be for those of us who enjoy being here.

I think they should be doing more. I am glad this hasn't happened to me though. The only thing I have been receiving lately is one line comments, where the person hasn't even bothered to read my post...

Actually, I had someone once cut and paste my reply further down in the same discussion. I reported it to Mylot every morning for three days and on the third day, Mylot removed the cut and paste. So I do think they try to lkeep things honest. But it takes time and we all (self included) think it should be done immediately. In some cases where there are complaints on both sides, I think that because Mylot answers one complaint first, it's perceived that they are siding with one party but I really think that a little patience will reveal this is not true. These things escalate so quickly and people literally lurk around their adversary's discussions waiting to break in and try to turn somebody against somebody else. I think there should be a rule that if you have a complaint against another member, you are absolutely forbidden to enter any of their discussions for any reason until the complaint is resolved.

I've had someone copy and paste a reply from someone else on one of my other threads. Needless to say I rated everyone but him and reported it to mylot, who did absolutely nothing lol. I feel that if admin are going to set rules and guidelines, they need to follow through on them, otherwise people are just going to get worse and worse and the whole website is going to fall apart with people abusing others left right and center.

I have yet to complain but i have also read alot of discussions such as this and i think that something should be done about such users. I think that mylot admin does a wonderful job but they could always do a better one to assure that this problem does in fact get cleaned up quicker!!

Hi Ronita, Yeah I agree with you. It's not fair that some people are getting abused and have to keep getting abused while Admin try to solve the problem. I think they need stricter enforcements and policies in place to deal with extreme abuse.

I've been here long enough to be the unfortunate party of receiving rude and offensive members. We're here to make friends and share each other's views. I hated seeing all those intruders tainting my discussion. I have reported to mylot admin on two occassions and they did a wonderful job of deleting those remarks. With the growing numbers of mylot, they can't control very well each and every discussions posted. Our duty is to help them by reporting any abusive members or responses and from there, admin will do their job.

Thanks for responding. I've had reason to report a couple of people to Mylot since I joined, and while it's never actually been abuse directed towards me, it was a blatant violation of the copy/paste rule. Someone copy and pasted a response that someone else had made to one of my threads, and actually pasted it into the same thread but on a different page. I reported this person to Mylot, and not only was the comment not removed, they didn't even bother to reply. I find it very disheartening when they tell us to do our bit, only to have them not bother at their end.

I agree wiht you. They need to work a little harder. I believe that when I read the rules, there was one that said no porongraphy. And I agree with that. I recently had a person ask to be a friend. But as I looked at their profile, I had to deny then because there was a graphic video on their profile. I do not agree with that kind of behavior, therefore I don't expect to see it. I thought this was a site that was for asking questions and answering them. Not a place to be rude or abusive to others. As for the video I found earlier, this is the kind of behavior that doesn't need to be posted. Why do people do that? That is a question I ask myself everyday. What people do in the privacy of there own home is fine with me, however this is not a place to display such behavior. I have also read many discussions about people saying that they are leaving, and I can't say that I blame them. Mylot does need to keep a better eye on the topics that are posted, as well as the responses, and members' profiles. I can see how that may be hard to do with over 76,000 members, but if they can't keep up with it, maybe they need to hire more help.

Hopefully Admin will start doing more to combat this kind of behavior. I've seen a couple of posts by very upset members in the last few days, including one by a member who said they were leaving because of the abuse they were constantly getting. She had reported these people to Mylot admin on many occasions, and while there were a few posts that were deleted, the members didn't get so much as a slap on the wrist.

I personally don't feel they are. I've noticed more and more of my close friends leave because of this and I hate the thought of losing more. This place used to be my heaven, a place I felt at home and to be with friends and now I wouldn't send anyone here even if they was about to become a high poster. Mylot;
