Are "newbies" discussions ignored or skipped over deliberately?

I've only been a member here for just over a week, and I have posted discussions on different topics. The most comments I've received on any given discussion has been a whopping 3! Is this the norm, because I've read a LOT of discussions on here and some basically "nothing" discussions sometimes get 40 or more comments.

The discussions that get the most responses generally hit a bigger audience. Make sure when starting a discussion you upload under the correct interest. As already stated friends is a key her to getting most discussions answered as most of us answer discussions started by our friends prior to anything else. I do try to answer 5 newbies discussions a day, but someday s are harder than others. I will only respond to discussions that I have something new to contribute, meaning that if the discussion responses have 5 responses all saying the same thing and I can add nothing to it then I won't leave a response, mylot states in the guidelines to only respond when you have something new to add. So if you ask a question and receive 2 responses that answered the question then you really shouldn't expect anymore. All so while I answer to a wide range of topics not all topics do I have enough knowledge in to answer or sometimes it's just not of any interest to me. I do stay away from a few topics here that seem to pop up quite regularly through out the day, I'm here to have fun not get into an argument about what I believe. Hope this helps to get more responses to your discussions, I think that this is a discussion that a lot of us ask upon arriving here and starting several discussions that get few responses. Welcome to mylot, I wish you much success here! :)

Thank you for the nice welcome, and for the tips on discussions. Being new here, there seems to be a lot to learn about how this site functions!

After a couple of weeks you will be a pro and you will be answer newbie questions with ease and explaining to them the same thing that you have heard today. Really the first couple of weeks for me was all trial and error. I do wish you the best of luck! :)

I don't think they are skipped over deliberately ... i guess it just depends on what the question is.I still have some discussions that don't get many replies. I personally don't really look at the number next to peoples name - just the discussion ... if it's something that i can relate to or respond to then i'll answer. To start of with - boost your friends list. A lot of people will reply to discussions their friends have started first before replying to a newbie. The hardest part is to try and think of a discussion that will be relevant to a lot of people. I had a quick look at your questions and there are nothing wrong with them but I know that I personally couldn't reply to them. I am really not interested in math and I have never heard of publisher clearing house - is it an American thing?? under a 5th of people in mylot are from the USA. Mylot is a really good site and I hope you stick at it! I highly doubt that anyone managed to get 10+ responses to their first post[s]. It's all a learning experience. Good luck!

Thank you! I really appreciate you taking the time to look at what I had posted! That was very kind of you. I wasn't aware that the percentage of Americans was so low on Mylot! Although I have noted a lot of countries represented here. PCH is a sweepstakes that offers (supposedly) a Ten Million Dollar Award once a year. I hadn't really thought about it, but I guess it is a U.S. thing.

No. I don't believe newbie's discussions are ignored or deliberately skipped. I've seen discussions with ratings of 5 or less than ten postings gathered 50 or more responses. Even old timers who are posting quality discussions are getting 0 responses or a whopping 3. There are many factors why discussions don't get responded to and I doubt being a newbie one is one of the factors.

Thank you for your response! I think I will spend some more time reviewing the site. And then spend time thinking of some quality discussion topics.

I have found that the best way to get comments is to build up a good friend system. YOu comment on their discussions and they comment on yours. It took me a couple weeks of hard work to get my friend base where I was getting lots of people commneting. I comment on theirs too. I always comment on my friends discussions first. Pick someone that has similar interests as yours and comment on all or at least many of their discussions. You will earn points and they will reconize your name. After you have made several comments on their discussions, ask them to be your fiend. Dont stop there, keep commenting on their discussions. You will have a loyal friend this way. Do this till you have a great friend base. It works. You will know because the same people with like interests stick together

This makes wonderfully good sense!! Thank you. I did start reading discussions that were listed under my interests tonight, but I hadn't really thought of using my interests to build up a base of friends. Thanks for a great idea!

Trinka26; So far you're new. It's normal I would say, when I first joined most of my discussions only hit around 5. except my first two discussion which went into 20's. You just need to stick with posting responses. Make friends and support them =) I do a lot of replying to my friends discussions and they often return the favour. Stick at it, be caring and you'll notice an improvement. I still do a lot and some of mine don't get many although I'm not concerned. You've also noticed something which I've tried to touch upon. Discussion which are basically "nothing" are just easier for people to reply to and most are only after the earnings. Good content and a good discussion would help them although, some are scared to type a long response. Kudos, ~Joey

Thank you for a very informative response! I really would prefer to post serious discussion topics, or at the very least, topics that are of interest to a large number of people. I'm not afraid of long responses! If anything, I tend to get carried away! LOL

I am also a newbie here-only three days-and I am having the same problem. For now, I've decided to mostly stick to responding to other people's discussions. This discussion has been very helpful for me in understanding establishing a friend base, selecting appropriate tags and interests. Thank you! I hope that I can establish some friends in time. This really seems like a fun website. Well, welcome and good luck :)

Well, a lot of it is in the amount of Friends you have made here, and if they will follow the discussions you have started, and another one is start topics that everyone will be interested in responding too. Find a topic you know everyone will talk about, and make sure you also take the time to go back and read all of your responses and give a Best response where due. I know one thing I have done besides make a lot of Friends on here who Trust me, and will respond to a lot of my discussions, is to go and check out the people's discussions who are on my friends list, and also those who respond to my discussions, and respond back to many of these as well. You are still New in here, so it is a learning process. But I hope some of what I shared will help.

You have succeeded in passing that amount of responses now. It has nothing with being a newbie it's just something that depends on what you post and if anyone has anything to say. Me too and I have score of over 2000 and I still don't get responses to some of the discussions I post. However I have found you really don't earn much money from it anyways. The money is in posting.

I believe the reason that this discussion has received so many responses is due to the fact that there are a lot of friendly people on this site who really do want to help someone new get started! They just have to know you're here and need the help! Thanks for commenting!

It all has to do with your topics, and your tags. The better the tags the more someone will get the chance to see and respond to your topics. I do think being a newbie it might be harder but it does get easier. Just stick with it and good luck.

One of the greatest feature of mylot.com is not the earnings but the ability to communicate better. Discussions is one of the ways we communicate our thoughts. Therefore it is vital we understand how and what people like to hear. Our discussions must be thought provoking and educational. Otherwise, it may turn out incitive or discriminating, etc. After a while, you will find that you will come up with more realistic topics to discuss. Keep it up.

It depends on whether or not you have alot of friends. When I first started I would get only a few responses, but as I started getting more and more friends then all of a sudden my discussions would start getting more and more responses. This is because your friends can view your discussions on the link that says "discussions started by my friends", or they have their notify set to on for your profile. If their notify is set to on, then whenever you create a discussion or respond to a post they will be notified of it through email and can come on and check it out.

When I started off in Mylot I thought the same thing. I thought to myself, "Why is it that some people get some 20-60 posts and I have 5 or 6?". Then one day when I had 200 or so friends I figured it out. The more friends you have, the better the chance your discussions are answered. Everything you post isn't going to interest everyone, and all of your friends posts aren't always going to interest you. But having many of them gives you a good and easy chance to find good discussions while having yours answered. :-P

I also wonder, I just think that maybe there are a lot of members in my lot that the questions are overlapping. I think you have to put many tags. I myself have lots of questions that have very few responses

What I get from your reply is that we should try to be original in our discussion, and use as many appropriate tags as possible. Thanks for the advice!

The way I look at it is that there are thousands of people on myLot and there are thousands of post per day. Therefore, it is possible not to get any response. I am new too but I really find myLot very interesting and I will be around here for a long time. Hope you would stay too.

You Did It Trinka!!!!! Yeah!!!! And the way you did it was with a catchy discussion title! Now, if you don't mind an old woman giving a few tips.... -If you don't have the time to respond to all of the comments you get, at least rate them - that is good for the person that commented, and it will make your friends happy, happy friends = good friends that will answer your posts = you making more money -When someone requests to be your friend and you accept, "The Friends" area of your screen has an "on" and "off" feature. It is automatically set to "off". If you want to know when your friends make a new post for you to respond to and be notified by email you must go into The Friends area and turn it "on" yourself. Be very careful of this feature as your email can get very cluttered. -Once you have many friends and they have turned you "on" and they see in their email that you have posted many, many, many mindless discussions such as "Do you brush your teeth more than once a day?, Do you like cream in your coffee?, What color is your favorite?" - They will turn you off. I make it a rule never to post more than 2 discussions per day. You get paid for posting discussions, but you also get paid for answering others' posts, and you get paid when others answer your posts. Since you are getting paid for people to answer your posts, you want to make them interesting enough for people to want to answer. -It is important to mark the "Best Response" of your discussion; but please, don't be in a hurry to do that. I see where some newbies mark that in only 1-3 days. That isn't long enough. Give each topic at least 7-10 days before marking Best. Now, dear one, I am off to ask you to be my friend ~Donna

Newbies discussions are not ignored nor skipped. I remember when I was starting...I've posted a discussion and I've got tons of responses right away. I think it depends on your topic. If they find it interesting...of course a lot of members will respond. Just think of a quality, new and interesting post so you can have more replies on your post. Make friends too. Goodluck and happy Mylotting!

I think it's not only you who have experienced this. Even me when it was still my first day last Feb. 12th, I have posted a lot of discussions, even the nonsense ones just to get a lot of replies. But here's what I've realized. Don't focus more ont the number of posts and replies but count more on the quality of the discussions. Your ratings and earnings would usually depend on the quality of your discussion. So if you have many good discussions, you will be rated very high. Make friends here at mylot too. I have several friends already that responds to my discussions every now and then. :)

Hi as a new member myself i noticed newbies discussions wern't very interesting. They just post anything cause they think it will earn them money. In my short experience i done the same but now i try and think of interesting discussions.the thing is people will only respond to what they know so try posting discussions in your interest and other members with the same interests are more likly to repond.

yes u seem to have taken the words right out of my mouth!!i couldnt have worded them better,,,only difference is that my discussions got a maximum of 5 replies!! awesome eh?
