Have you ever been treated this way?

I am currently a part time teacher at a Korean School. I just started last week as I was just also hired last week. Of course, being a new teacher in the school, I have to make sure to be as friendly as possible to avoid conflicts with co teacher. There's no problem to that because some of the teachers who were there for a long time were also friendly. But what I was so angry and so disappointed about was this one encounter I had with one of the administration officer (I think the head of the Accounting). I went to the office because I asked for a whiteboard marker because the white board marker they gave me the day before that got lost in my own cubicle in the teachers office and I didn't know who took it. So when I was already at the office, I asked the person in charge if I can ask for another one, then, she asked the head of the accounting if she can give me another one. Know what the head of the accounting told me, she told me this in a very unprofessional manner, "Next time, you better take care of your things because we are not a factory of whiteboard markers here!". I was silent. I couldn't respond and I was so upset. I mean, she could have said it in a professional manner right? Does she have to treat new teachers that way? what do you guys think?

Hopefully she isn't like that all of the time. Maybe she was having a bad day, or had just had a problem with someone just before you. I know that I have been snapped at by people who don't ordinarily act that way, and it is usually because something is already bothering them. It should not have happened, but try not to let it get to you unless her behavior continues.

hi kelly, I don't really know if that's her usual behavior but base on my own observations as well as my fellow newbies, she has been unfriendly from the time we applied and until now, she's kind of snobbish and stict.

wow soory you experience it langGa18.. wow that was kindda rude.. But first you should also take to consider the following.. hmm maybe the administration officer has a menopause or something.. or maybe a promblem in a family.. a problem with the previous meeting.. we cant tell.. i would suggest meet her again and have a conversation, you will notice her personality.. if she is the person you expected or not.. maybe what you just experience is a moment of wrong timing. More experienced employee should always treat new employee with respect and professionalism. Goodluck

yes, webbuff, i do get your point but don't you think that whatever troubles we have we keep it to ourselves or if we want to talk about it then talk to someone whom we can trust but not express it in a rude manner because it might ruin other people's day? thanks anyway for your insight.

I guess you just have to understand that working in an accounting department is kind of very frustrating sometimes that make someone irritable. Working with Accounting department is a very tedious job since you are responsible for all that has something to do with money. You have to weigh everything in supplying things even as small as whiteboard marker you should account all of that. Maybe that is why she is always irritable since those things are very important to her not be wasted. Although her actuations are very unprofessional but you should also understand that you should be responsible for the things the company is providing you since it means money to your employer and accounting people are the ones that get bugged by the company when things are getting out of hand even that small marker.
