Just recently, I saw a documentary of 'great whites' attack on humans. The most common victims are those surfers, especially when they lay on top of their boards. Sharks mistakenly see them as seals, because seals are their common prey.
I think alligator/crocodile-attack cases are more isolated, because people do not easily swim on dark, murky waters. Where in the ocean, sharks has large access to swim upon..

I too believe there are more shark attacks compared to alligator attacks. So you think someone has a better chance with a shark attack? Thanks for your comments.

I guess so, I haven't heard yet of someone killed by a shark. Because they leave most of their victims bloodied, before launching in for another attack. By this most of their human victims have the chance to escape, and swim away for their safety.

i would say sharck attack because alligators move in a way impossible for you to escape!

I think I would die of fear before either of them even got to me.

Very true, but there are so many shark attack survivors so maybe it would be the shark. Thanks for responding.

I think it depend on our knowledge, survival skill, familarity of the environment. Last but not least important, it depend on our luck too LOL. So, take shark attack for example, if the shark hunts in pack, then our survivor is near to zero, if it comes alone, then we should poke its eye instead of its nose. Picking its nose will futher agitate it and poking its eyes will weaken its hunting capability. For aligator, we can still run away from them on land, but we could hardly beat them in the water. So, we need to be careful if we are in the swamp area or riverside.

Good points you made. I think there are a lot more survivors of shark attacks than croc attacks. Thanks.

That's a tough one but I'd have to say a shark attack, only because when a shark goes after its' prey, they just bite and swim with whatever they got in their mouth where as an alligator drags their prey down to the bottom of the river....once an alligator gets a hold of you, they don't let go but a shark will....

I suppose if I had to pick a tank with one or the other I'd pick the alligator because they are actually fairly unaggressive unless they are protecting a nest. In most cases an alligator will scram in your presence instead of taking you on. Actually they claim sharks are not all that aggressive to humans either but somehow I think they've forgotten that rule in the ocean! LOL I do know that you are pretty much guaranteed to lose something from an alligator with the pressure and design of the teeth, while with a shark they sometimes don't rip but will puncture and a quick poke to the eyes will make them let go. So I guess there are good and bad points to both!

Yep, I herd about the poke to the eye move. Well, we all know now what you would do if your face to face with a shark. lol

Well I wouldn't put myself in either situation to be attacked by either. But from watching different TV series on Discovery Chanell I'd say we have a better chance survivin a shark attack. Once the shark first jhits it's prey it will thrash then release it to turn around & bite it from another side. Humans have the capability of knowing which way to go at most times as other mammals/animals don't rely on this sense. Thanks for a great discussion. may you be croc, gator, shark attack free. Hee hee hee.

Seems like the shark is the better choice. Thanks for your opinion.

we only have crocodiles here ( australia ), but i would put my money on sharks, i have seen crocs and they are not a nice creature, once they get hold of you, it's not too often people get away from them, but sharks, being a diver i have swam with heaps of sharks, and even fed them in the water, and you get to see how they react in the water, nearly all the time they will swim around the food before they come in to eat it, if they take some thing in to their mouth that isn't normal, they let it go, they even do it to fish, then they come back for a fish, but people don't taste good to them, thats why so many victims survive, most of the deaths are through blood loss, shock then drowning, surfers under water to a shark looks like a turtle, and divers look like a seal, they wont come on to land to get you, but a croc will

Very good points you made here, I didn't know this stuff about sharks. You are right, the crocs can get you in the water and on land. So the guess the shark is the best pick then. Thanks.

howard I think you would have a better chance with the shark as alligators jaws are like steel traps and most people who are attacked by sharks do live though it only sadly they usually lose a lot of their anatomy too. But the alligator doesn't let people go so easily so I have read.boy I would die of fright if I was ever attacked by either one so they would not have to kill me. lol.
