Hi All My mother-in-law has been recently diagnosed by Thyroid which is a hormonal disease. It at a higher stage in her body. Doctor has adviced her to reduce salt content in her food and keep doing exercises and yoga. There is no other remedy for it except taking medicines. Does anybody else have been diagnosed by this? And what are you doing to keep it in control.

thyroid, first of all, is not a disease, but one of the larger endocrine glands of our body. it produces hormones, thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), that regulate the rate of metabolism and affect the growth and rate of function of many other systems in the body. the common problems of the thyroid glad are hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. which one has your mother-in-law been diagnosed of?

These terms are more little confusing but one thing you made clear over here that Thyroid is a gland and not a disease. Ok andif it dosent functions well then it can affect the rate of metabolism as well as growth of our body and it can also affect function of many other systems too in a body. Ok now it makes me clear. Thanks a lot friend for making me all this clear.

Due to an essential medication which CAUSED me to have a thyroid problem, I can identify somewhat. My thyroid medication is constantly being adjusted according to what my monthly blood tests say. I've just bee told it would be best to go on a diabetic diet (which greatly limits salt and sugar) and walk like crazy for exercise.

Ok so that depends from person to person. So it all depends on the doctor who will do her complete checkup. Then whatever medication he suggest that should be taken. Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts on this topic.

I have Hashimoto's which is an autoimmune disease that attacks the thyroid gland and causes hypothyroidism. I know a lot about this, but not sure if that's what your mother in law has. I don't have to reduce salt content, but do take Synthroid which is synthetic thyroid hormone.

But my friend's mother also have it and she is saying that her doctor suggested to take less salt, less oily. So all these precautions have to be taken to treat it.

There is a way to balance it more easily. I can't tell you or anyone to stop taking meds, but I know many people who did what I told them to do, and they sopped taking meds and are totally balanced. With meds you are semi-balanced, because you don't realy know the amount you should take (She was probably given altroxin or some kind of generic med like it) like the body does. If you wish to hear of another way to balance your body, PM me.
