which do you appreciate more - a surprise gift or a gift that you've vocally asked for?

I would choose a gift I actually asked for. That's why I'd appreciate it more if a person would ask me what I want than be surprised (with dismay -- haha). I usually ask for things that I would use or consume (but not food) like make-up and perfume. Same thing goes, whenever I give a gift, I also ask the person what he/she wants so that I know the gift would be appreciated. I think that's even more thoughtful because the person would surely be satisfied or happy.

You'd be surprised how many people are not happy even when they get what they thought they wanted.

Without a doubt I would appreciate a surprise gift much more. That would mean the gift giver put some serious thought into what to get me. It doesn't matter what it is, it came from the person's heart. ‹(°¿°)›

Thanks for the vote white4burgundy. I do hope you love what you get no matter what it is. Anyway, it's a real rush not knowing what's coming. ‹(°¿°)›

I would certainly appreciate a gift that I've vocally asked for. I like surprise gift, but it is way out of my taste I would not be flattered.

Would you be flattered if someone gave you a diamond ring as a surprise gift?

If it is a significant item, it is more useful to me if it is something I have vocally asked for. In economists lingo, it has high utility over one that does not really fit into a need - unless of course the surprise happens to match what you need. For the surprise, it is nice, but I prefer them to be small things that do not cost much or not difficult to obtain.

So economically speaking, if you ask for a new outfit and you were given a surprise gift of a car, you wouldn't be happy?
