Moving IS stressful, but it doesn't have to be. There are guidlines and procedures to follow that will make things go smoothly.
Preparation is important. Making sure you're only moving the things you intend to keep can save you a lot of hassle in the long run. De-clutter. Throw away all those useless items you know you don't need.
Then employ a good removals company. Local is always better. Insist they come out and give you a quotation. Estimates are no good. You don't want any financial shocks on the day.
Pack everything yourself. Make a list of all your utility companies and get advice about moving/cancelling the services they provide. This can be done long before the removal date.
Keep essential items separate. Coffee facilities, phone book, mobile phone charger, etc would be better in the car than in the removals van.
Most importantly, take your time. Rushing around trying to get it over and done with will only lead to breakages and stress. It's only a few days out of your life. Better to do it slowly and carefully so you are relaxed when you enter your new home.

Oh I don't agree with you.
Sometimes moving could be an exhilarating experience, especially when you can move out of your parents' house or some place that doesn't make you happy.
Look at it this way: you are free and unshackled from your old place that makes you miserable, and you can do whatever you want in your new residence.

Oh my one of the aliens!!:)))) Ok granted if you felt shackled yes but talk to me again when you have to move from a happy place to a sad place.. And I am actually talking about the physical schlep of packing, stuff getting lost, stuff breaking etc.etc. But on the physiological side I agree, you do that with a song and a dance if you were unhappy where you stayed, even if you only arrive with a cup and no saucer *smile* thx DuoMaxwell for your response

I don't like moving and agree it is one of lifes stressful experiences. Even when we want to move and are excited about it we know we are leaving behind everything we have known up till that time. Plus all the work involved in packing and unpacking. I'm always amazed when I read of people who love to move and do it as often as they can.

All that hunting for stuff, drives me mad! With every previous move, I have tried to be more organized, but it seems with every move it gets worse. As for people who like to move, I think they are from another planet:) Thanks for your response
