Is India safe enough to travel alone? Do you have any tips to travel safe and easy in India? Are there places you should avoid? Is it possible to travel around India using trains?

yes its pretty safe to travel if u take care some of the important facts.See india is a country of culture, religion, and they treat their guest like gods.So while moving to places make sure you obey to what the people around u say.If you are not sure about how to do things then its always better to ask..like If you r goin to a temple then u have wash ur hands ur feet and u have to enter barefoot. So you need to knw where people take off their shoes.Similarly there are so many rules. You jus have to take care of them as people in india are very emotional and religious to certain things.Else its a best place to visit.

Even from the point of view of practices such as removal of shoes, etc are concerned, or other religious practices, Indians are a lot more flexible than the countries from the Muslim world. Indians generally make exceptions for Caucasians and foreigners.

India is as safe as nby other country in the world to travel. When you compare it to US and Europe, you are less safer from the point of view of terrorist attacks, which unfortunately Pakistan still continues to sponsor, but then the chances of being a vicitm of such an attack are low. As far as the chances of getting mugged point of veiw are concerned, I think you are safer in India than the Americas and Europe. There is one aspect where New Dlhi has gained some noterity, there have been less than a handful of cases over the last decade or so where a white woman has been raped and in acouple of instances killed off after the rape, but I think those chances are also as much as (maybe lower, because Indians will generally not harm a caucasians) in your own country or other parts of the western world. Travel in trains, preferably in Air conditioned compartments or first class with a confrimed reservation and you are generally quite safe. India has the largest railway network and travel is quite cheap, but the trains can be late, so plan your travel flexibly. You are welcome to my country and I hope you have a pleasurable trip here and keep on returning. On a lighter note-we do need your dollars and euros (or guilders) that you as a tourist will spend in India. LOL

Thanks for your input Tarachand. Maybe you can also respond to these questions: how much dollars is necessary a day to have a relaxing time travelling in India? How much is a hotel? Groceries? Taxis?

It depends on the the number of persons, amount of travel, the type of hotel that you want to live in, the city or town, the places where you eat. Assunming you are alone, I think there are fairly clean and good places for amounts as low as US$50/- a day (actually even lower in some places), taxifare would cost you a minimum of around 50cents for the first two kilometers (about 1.6 miles) and then for every additonal 100 meters about 3-5 cents or thereabouts. If you hire an all day taxi with a driver, that would be around 10-20 cents per kilometer plus drivers charges and meals -arond US$5-10/- per day, plus the kilometers you travel. These rates are approximate and could vary by as much as 50% depending upon the location you are in. All in all, in about US$60-75/- per day you could live reasonably well, a family of four would require at least double that amount. 1US$ is approximately Rs.40-50/- depending upon the prevailing exchange rate. You kust keep one thing in mind, many hotels have separate rates for foreigners, which if converted to rupees could be more than double the charges that they get from the locals.

I dont think that India is safe to travel alone . In practical , no place in the world is safe to travel alone . yes , I am serious . And it is possible to travel around India using trains . Almost all important places in India are covered by trains . India is one of the largest networks of trains . One can take a circular ticket to visit many places in a route .
