My daughter's tattoo of a butterfly is still not completely healed. She went back to the studio and had a star place on her lower arm. It is terrible infected. The area around the tattoo is red, it is pussing, and causing her quite a lot of pain. She has gone to the doctor today to see if there is something they can give her to treat the infection. She logged onto the internet to read a bit more on tattoos and infection. It stated that if your body has a difficult time with fighting off infection you should not get a tattoo. People with conditions such as Rhuematoid Arthritis have compromised immune systems and should not have a tattoo. The tattoo artist was told of her having Rheumatoid Arthritis, he should have known that she could have problems. He did not advise her against having the work done. Just wanted to give you a heads up. : )

I am sorry to hear that she is in such pain. Hopefully the doctor will give her something to ease it for her. I am sure that the tatoo place either neglected to tell her to earn the money, or just didnĀ“t know. I think that it is important to really look it up (the tatoo place) before you choose and maybe now because of you, more people will search the net BEFORE they decide to get one. I hope that ur daughter will heal soon!

She was on an anti-biotic, but I am not sure it is strong enough or the correct one to battle the infection.

I'm sorry that she has to go through this. I hope that the doctor gave her an antibiotic. She should take extra care to clean the area well and apply antibiotic ointment to the tattoo to heal the infection and to prevent damage to the tattoo. She already paid a lot of money for it, I'm sure, and she's suffering through the infection; it would be a shame to have the tattoo ruined. The tattoo artist should have at least warned her that she may have problems healing and given her a choice before he went ahead. Many of my HIV positive or Hepatitis C patients got tattoos, but I always instructed them on how to prevent infection and what to watch for; although I tried to discourage them from getting tattoos or piercings, most of them went ahead anyways.

She cleaned the area quite often and applied the suggested cream on it consistently. Some of the color has been pushed from the surface due to the swelling of the skin. I am going to clock her when I next see her because she was going to the doctors to have it looked at and never called me! : ) Gotta love adult children.

Wow, I didn't know that. I do know when I got both of mine I had to fill out a whole questionaire. I don't remember what was on it, but it seemed like a lot of "silly" questions to me. That mighta been on there. The place I go is VERY reputable, it's had nationwide recognition and has been in quite a few magazines. The people there are really great too! I hope your daughter has no long-term ill effects from this.

I am sorry to hear that your daughter is suffering from infection. Hope she will get well soon. I am afraid of any kind of pain, so I have never thought about getting a tattoo. It's very painful to get a tattoo on your body I think. It is good that you have informed people so they will be careful about this.

I just responded and don't know what happened but it's not showing up. Let me try this again. I'm sorry that your daughter is having such a hard time with them. I hope the doctor can give her something to heal the infection pretty quick.

Is she using any ointment like neosporin on it? I know you're supposed to use neosporin as it will help it heal much faster. Some people's bodies take things harder than others. I don't think he told you're daughter not to get the work done because he wanted the money. He had to know it would cause a problem because they train for a while to get their state license. Thanks for warning others of this. Hope your daughter gets to feeling better.

It is good that you are letting people know about this. Tattoo artists aren't medical personnel, usually, and so they are not up on the latest medical findings, but then neither are alot of people in the medical field. I hope your daughter's problem clear up without her having to lose any infected skin!

Oh dear yes some tattoo's I have heard that they can get very infected, thank you for your information and I do believe in your daughters case the tattoo artist should not have done the tattoo in the first place knowing that your daughter suffered with Rheumatiod Arthritis.

Oh dear i am so sorry to hearof this today. To be honest i have heard stories that tatoos can even be skin cancer related but because i have never thought of having one i never really investigated it further. My niece whohas just turned 17 years old wanted one but i gave her advice that she might change her mind later on and wantit removed and it would be an arduous process. She did heed to the advice and got one of those fake tatoos instead, which looks just as good butis lesspermanent and damaging to the skin. Again,i hope your daughter gets better soon.

That's because he doesn't make any money if he tells people that they shouldn't get a tattoo. Almost everybody I know, even diabetics, heal better than I do because I have fibromyalgia - heck, I had my ears pierced over 10 yrs ago & still have trouble with them so I stopped wearing earings.

I am sorry to hear that your daughter is going through that. I think that the tattoo artist should have said something to her about what could happen because she has Rheumatoid Arthritis. Either that or refused to do the tattoo altogether. I have six tattoos and luckily I haven't had a problem with any of them. Enjoyed your post :)

That is not a nice thing to happen and quite often there are risks when doing any type of "work" to the body. Having had my first one last year (a butterfly) I had to fill out some paper work which asked all types of questions and the main concern was the condition of my health and then it had to be signed and agreed that I have told all! Also was advised to by a special cream to keep the infection away which was bought at the chemist and applied for the first two weeks. I was fortunate to have no problems and all went well. Does not sound like she went to a very good tattooist as they would have informed her that it would be better not to go ahead with it if they were at all concerned with her health. Going to the Doctor is the wisest thing to do as he/she will be able to give her something to hit the ifection straight away. Hope all goes well for her. :)caramello

She has said that she will not refer anyone to him. He was irresponsible. Although his work is very nice, I believe that he needs to be more concientous regarding the health of his customers.

I think she should of done her research before getting it done its her medical condition she should know what effects it and what doesnt. It may also be that the place she went to is not clean and she got an infection from there you have to be careful when getting tattoos and have to get postive feedback from people

Aloe vera, aloe vera, aloe vera... Be sure to get a preparation that has a good amount of the Aloe extract in it. Preferably from someone like the American company .. Forever Living Products... You'll find them online. This preparation will heal the skin perfectly and you will will be so amazed you will want to sell the stuff yourself!!! This is a promise!!! Best wishes XXX

I remember you telling us how your daughter had gotten the tattoo in honor of you and I thought it was so sweet..! It's a shame that it got infected; I know how you must feel, with her being in so much pain. Please, keep us updated on how she fairs with the healing and I'll say a prayer for her.

Am extremely sorry about this most tattoo parlors are not all look in to thing's like this...When i recived my tattoo I studied alot about the cleansliness of the place how they treat there customers if they did thing's clean..There are a lot of risks with tatties that people don't take on account when getting one there are usually to excited to get the work done to think twice....I myself think risks with getting a tattoo should be confirmed or studied!!! Best of luck to ur daughter hope all has a positive out come with the infection....Big Huggs

I have never been to this parlor, but maybe I should just walk in to see how he runs the joint.
