I have an appointment today to take this test my doctor called an EEG, and of course he didn't explain it to me, and at the time my head hurt so bad I didn't feel like asking him to explain it to me. So I'm trying to be well informed about what I'm up for today. And one ever had one or know someone who has?

EEG stands for Electroencephalography, a way of measuring the electrical activity of the brain. you have every right to ask your doctor about this, and your doctor has the responsibility to explain this procedure to you in ways that you could understand.

That procedure really stinks. Nothing like having needles put in you and have electrical current sent though your body. Thanks for the help.

I think EEG is "elettroencefalogramma", isn't it? Why are you doing it?

My bone and joint doctor wants to do it because of my headaches. He couldn't find anything on the cat scan they ran so now I have to take this test.

I never heard of it but I did a search. MyLot won't let me copy and paste cause I don't have 500 postings yet :( So I will type it out for you....the patient will lay on their back on a table or reclining chair. The tech will apply 16 - 25 flat metal discs in positions on the scalp. The disc are held in place with sticky tape. The electrodes are connected by wires to an amplifier and a recording machine. The recording machine converts the electrical signals into a series of wavy lines that are drawn onto a moving piece of graph paper. You will need to lay still with eyes closed because any movement will alter the results. You may be asked to do certain things during the recording, such as breathe deeply and rapidly for several minutes or to look into a bright flickering light. To Prepare For The Test:....you will need to wash your hair the night before, do not use any oils or sprays before the test. You may have to stop taking certain medications. You should avoid all foods with caffeine for 8 hours prior. I hope that helps.. good luck!
