Quakers seem to be nearly freethinkers. Creative reinterpreting of scripture they disagree with until it suits their conscience. Atheists are free to disregard scripture in favor of their conscience because we don't believe scripture alone holds any valid argument.
As to the claim of ludicrously disproportionate influence, I see none of that today.
I think religious historians will look for that tiny group of relilgious people that actually did the right thing and claim that it was them that had a ludicrously disproportionate influence on the outcome. They will do this while totally ignoring that the atheists around them never did see a valid argument to oppose it.
Perhaps Quakers are the very seat of religious conscience, but it does not say much for religion and Christianity in general that the question is even a question.
