Do you think anti-depressants are dangerous, due to their addictive nature?

The majority of anti-depressants leave a person chemically dependant on the feeling they provide for the rest of their lives. Do you believe that greater care should be taken with dispensing these drugs?

Welcome to myLot. You pretty much answered your discussion. They are dangerous and are physiologically addictive. That is both psychologically and physically. They are no different than smoking a joint. Your mind will eventually become numb to the feelings of depression and anxiety. It will rob a person of empathy and sympathy because we need to feel depression and anxiety ourselves before we can understand and deal with others. You're absolutely correct. Greater care should be taken when "considering" the administering of these medications. ‹(°¿°)›

I would have to agree with Jumpinjack. I was on meds for a few years and the side effects is what finally made me look at other opitions for my depression. I found that yes they stopped me from going into that dark place, but they left me a walking zombie. It was almost like I had no emotions. So which is better to be depressed or a void of any feeling. And the side effects at one point I was lactating, I now have liver damage, my short term memory was effected, and my eyes were damaged. I had 20 20 vision before one of the meds and now I have glasses. While still taking that med I told my doctor about my vision problems and he matter of factly told me oh yeah that's one of the side effects this med is know for. Gotta love modern medicine!
